Why Won't My 1000W Inverter Run my 800W Coffee Maker?

Either there are enough volts at the inverter terminals or there isn't.

This is 99.9% of the fundamentals of what is lacking.

AFTER that has been determined, then in a separate check, do the battery terminal voltage.

CCA tells you what is available at 9.6 volts. At 9.6 volts any inverter will stick it's tongue out and tell you to go screw yourself.

AMPS DELIVERED AT 12.0 volts is a more rational test.

Thanks for all the great input everyone!

I apologize for not providing more info up front, didn't really know what I should include... I also apologize for the delay in responding, I was travelling for work and just got back to civilization today.

So the prevailing theories seems to include the inverter not running the outlet(s), lack of battery power, lack of battery capacity, undersized cables limiting power transfer, and excessive draw above the 800W rating of the coffee maker...

Outlets: I guess that's a fair response, as I did let the secret about my lack of electrical knowledge be known right up front. However, even with my pea brain, I did manage to verify the outlet in question (and several others) are in fact providing A/C power when the inverter is switched on.

Battery power: I will verify voltage at the battery bank the next time I try it. I do know that the generator had run for several hours the day prior (running A/C to combat the 95+ temps), and that we had little to no (known) electrical draw throughout the night once the genset was shut down.

Battery capacity: (2) new 12-volt "deep cycle RV" batteries from the local tire shop, both July 2018 dated.

Cable Sizes: Difficult to verify based on only being able to see the external cable insulation, cannot vouch for how thick the insulation is or how thick the copper is hiding inside?

Excessive Draw: I'd put this as a very likely culprit after reading this discussion and many others about similar type issues. I will research lower wattage single-serve coffee makers.

As far as what the inverter does when I say it won't work, there is an audible "beep beep beep" and the coffee maker simply shuts off, as if the power switch has been pushed again to physically turn it off. No fuses or breakers blow, as I can push the ON button again immediately and it will "beep beep beep" again.

With regard to how I make my coffee, which clearly was not the point of this thread, I have done it all over the years and suffice it to say would very much prefer to simply utilize the inverter to make a cup or two early in the morning, quietly and without adding heat inside the coach.

My PD definitely has a watt rating. It does list the output in amps.

Since you asked, no, they're not. They're usually rated in output amps. Watts vary depending on the voltage (either input or output).

Class A, opps i thought the stated model was a trailer

but as a test he could start the drive engine, and try the coffee maker in the inverter
if it worked , yahoo problem solved .. battery issue
then he work on upgrading the batteries

I was in Northern Baja once, and on a weekend Some class C pulls in.

Some woman sneering and running around with a parasol and a guy who kept looking skyward for strength and patience.

Sunday morning, I hear all sorts of commotion, and the woman comes over to my van with a 1500 watt hair drier and a 150 watt ciggy plug style inverter, and her colorful parasol, while telling me how stupid and worthless her husband is, while batting her eyelids.

Hopefully when she returned to the Class C she had a bit more respect for her poor husband, after I could not stop laughing long enough to do anything other than shake my head.

She was obviously 'Class A' forced into the poor role of a class C with an undersized inverter and battery bank.

Going in circles... Zero input from the OP helps.

Not enough battery.
Not full enough battery.
Not beefy enough wire (did anybody notice that this is Class A, for all we know there could be NO wire, inverter mounted on the battery).
Not enough continuous power rating of inverter.
Not powered 110V outlet where he is trying to shove the plug in - yes, they wire Class A like that, often.

Not that this development of events surprises me. Have noticed this more than once, Class A owners don't know much about their rigs and rarely willing to modify anything DIY.

Getting cranky, time to get my coffee...
