I have been using the Carryout for a few years as a full-timer. It worked Thursday. Today when I hooked it up, it worked fine until I unplugged it from the 12 volt. Tried it several times. It has a very good signal, perfect weather, etc. It is connected directly to the DVR.Any ideas?

Maybe the unit needs the 12V to power up...My opinion as I do not have one for my TT

It does need 12 volt to find the satellite. Once it finds the satellite it can be unplugged from the 12 volt. The 12 volt is connected to the satellite. I have been using this for a few years, and I know for a fact it does not have to stay connected to 12 volt. Bgum, thanks - it is level but I will turn it.

It does not need power to "work". It needs a good 12 volt supply to find the bird. If you don't have local channels then voltage is not needed past that. If you have local channels then you need voltage as they are on a different bird than the commercial channels. I am thinking that the electric motor that moves the dish is moving the Dish when power is lost. Therefore move it a little.

I went thru this same thing with mine. Sometime it worked with the 12V feed off and depending on the channels I was watching it would lose the signal. Definitely a local channel vs. long distance channel thing. Flip around a little and another channel would come on. Between the local-long distance channels and the relaxing of the sat. finder it is imperative that the 12V feed be connected full time. I found that a fairly brisk wind at Quartzsite could cause channel loss if the 12V was not connected. It would shake things just enough to allow some internal movement and loss of signal. Hook up 12V. and all is well.

You are likely right, could have been 103. For some reason 109 stuck in my head.

Are you sure about this? I thought all standard DTV stations used 99, 101 and 103.

Hence, with a Carryout, if you don't leave the dome powered you can lose channels if you need to move between 101 and 109

WHAT fixed it? You do not state exactly what fixed the problem. But, regardless, Winegard states that continued 12 volts will always keep it locked on. Just because you CAN disconnect the 12 volts does NOT mean it will work for everyone. Doug

I've been having the same problem that I never had before. Always been able to remove the 12V after the carryout has located the satellite for Directv and still had reception. Now as soon as the 12V is unplugged reception is cut off. I've been scratching my head over this for the last couple of weeks.

Problem solved thanks to bgum. With good signal strength, I didn't think to move the dome - still not sure what was causing the interruption.

At any rate, everything is working correctly and THE 12 VOLT HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED!!

Sounds like Doug has nailed it. It would be interesting to have a ball park power usage for the 12V. I'd hazard a guess that it's small compared to the receiver/TV.
