There was an article in the paper this morning about it. It said Ford would not announce their 1st quarter numbers until next week. Pickuptrucks.com is probably waiting for that before publishing their numbers. It did say that Ram had passed Chevy in quarterly sales for the first time, due primarily to large discounts and incentives on their pricing.

The article has been up since Thursday.I don't doubt that incentives had something to do with Ram sales but there are other factors like Chevy is only producing the most expensive and profitable models so far plus several professional reviewers have not treated them kindly. I have always maintained that big decisions are rarely decided for one reason only.

Useless info, other than a sign of economic health in general. Truck sales, car sales, house sales, all capital purchases swing with the economy.

I think Ram and GM would disagree with that.As both companies ramp up production of the new models, it will be interesting to see what happens. I think the new Chevy/GM half tons will increase sales. But that new HD Chevy is some serious ugly. That's gotta hurt sales.

None of it matters really but it's interesting how many more trucks Ram is selling than it was back in the day. I was in high school when the 94 model came out, and prior to that Dodge was a literal afterthought. Even after the 94 redesign it's been a slow and steady rise from a very distant third to a relative equal. If this split out HD sales I would bet Ram would be a solid 2 even adding Chevy/GM together.

I helped Ram with their numbers this last quarter. I traded both a Chevy ZR2 and a Ford F350 for a Ram 2500 Power Wagon. I like the solid front axle and swaybar disconnect more on the Power Wagon than I did the IFS and Multimatic shock on the ZR2. And I like the totally silent cab on the Ram better than I did the rattle trap cab on the Ford.

They all make good trucks. I can certainly see why Ram is gaining ground though.

Having worked Ford/Dodge and GM truck in my hauling business I'm not brand loyal.
I've noticed more Ram/Ford HD with dot numbers on the door than both GM trucks together.
IMO its because of local GM dealers don't want to come much off sticker other than factory discounts....and not because a Ford or Ram makes a better truck.
Now 1/2 ton GM truck sales are big especially around metro areas around here with the yuppie crowd.
Rural areas its still redneck country boyz with a Dodge/Ram or a Ford......with blown out burned out load glass packs.

Well it took them long enough. They have always had the best diesel engine in the light duty truck segment. They just couldn't get the rest right. I would always choose Ram over GM, but it will take some time before I would ever consider them over my Ford.

My 1st new truck was a 1972 D-100. As we moved to a gooseneck horse trailer, I got a 1973 D-200 400 CID that was a bull. Next came a 1976 F-250 XLT, 390 CID which was a sorry excuse for a truck. Then came a1977 D200 with 400 cid I kept through the 80’s. In 1994, I got a C2500 then a 1998 C1500. In 2003 came a F250 with7.3 then 2006 F250, 6.0 then a 2007,F350 DRW 6.0 including new injectors and heads. After a few years away, a 2016 F250 6.2. After all I’ve ever owned, the current 2018 F350 DRW, 6.7 is the best ride, power and equipped vehicle I have ever owned.

My first new truck was a 84 Dodge D-150. I drove it for 10 years and 200k miles. I sold the truck to a friend that drove it another ten years, he did put a transmission in it. The friend sold it to the son of a lab tech at work who had it for several years. Then it was sold to a young man 2 blocks away who is still driving it with the original motor.

You can say what you want about old Dodges not holding up but mine sure did.

RAM HD trucks do outsell GM and Chevy combined when only 2500 and 3500 numbers are considered - at least they did a couple years back.
