2007 Dodge 6.7L exhaust brake squeal?

You were lucky.

Turns out it was loose nuts on the EGR resulting in leak and resulting squeal noise.

From what I have read, all the variable geometry turbos are subject to sticking if not exercised. This appeared to be more of an issue with frequently unloaded mall crawlers than people that regularly towed. My Powerstroke never had this issue and I don't expect my Cummins to have problems either since most of places I drive have good percentage grades and most of the time the truck is loaded.

The advise the others have given is sound and should be an inexpensive fix unless the manifold is damaged.

This is somewhat of a common problems with these engines especially ones that had the turbo cleaned via the chemical injection into the turbo cleaning port. Having said that it's most likely your exhaust manifold has a small crack and the extra pressure between the turbo/exhaust brake and the manifold itself is pushing the exhaust gas out a crack therefore making this noise. I would get it fixed as this issue can cause other problems down the road.

Hopefully its something simple, but the turbo vane can fail. I recommend getting it checked out.

THe OP's exhaust brake is built into the VGT so no butterfly.

My bad... didn't see the model year. :o (was thinking back to my 05 with post turbo, aftermarket Exhaust Brake)


As Scott mentioned cold engine soapy water/windex... or look for soot.

I just went thru this scenario! You have a exhaust manifold gasket(s) that has let go.
I did the egr cooler/valve cleaning at the same time as I only have 65000 on mine, so it wasn't to bad once I removed the egr.
