I have nearly the same truck (F350 Dually, Lariat) only the 6.8 V10.
The 6.4L engine was Ford's replacement for the (very) troubled 6.0L engine, while it had it's own issues, there were less of them then the 6.0L
You can see the 6.4L engine issues in that it was replaced already, while the 6.8L is still being produced, in two versions. The 2valve 6.8L is effectively unchanged since 2001.
Personally, if the price was right, I'd get the truck
