2010 Toyota Sequoia towing capabilities

You are limited by the payload of 545 KG or 1200 pounds. That includes everything carried in the truck: passengers, weight of the hitch, dogs, luggage and whatnot. When that trailer is loaded the hitch weight will be closer to 900 pounds which leaves you very little weight left over for stuff in or on the truck. You are running up against the big problem with all the import trucks.

First is to decide if you believe in the ratings systems or not

If not, then do whatever but know you have taken the OEMs off the hook for
warranty and liability

If yes, then read and learn HOW2

Next is to load up your TV as if going to tow and weigh it axle by axle

That will then tell you where you are in reference to 'your' vehicles ratings

All classes of TV's can be over their ratings, but the lowest class gets into
over weight trouble sooner or with smaller trailers (fiver and TT)

Depending on the weigh of your family, pets and cargo...betcha will have little
room for the tongue weight. Might not have enough for a popup

Am of no help until you provide actual weights of how your TV will be loaded up
ready to go camping

PS...kids tend to grow and another question is how long do you keep
your vehicles? Also, many advisors discount babies and toddlers...forgetting
all the 'stuff' that comes along with them... :B

Let's put first things first. Load your Sequoia just like you would be loading it as a tow vehicle.

This means minimal luggage, that should be in the trailer. So take you and your family...iPods, toys, etc...the stuff you take on a trip.

Fill up the SUV at a gas station with a CAT scale and weigh it with you and your family in the SUV after you fill up.

Should cost you about $9.00

Also, the tire loading sticker is specd at 33 PSI...your tires are going to handle 44-50 PSI... While towing..air them up to the max PSI on the side wall. This will make the truck feel more stable while towing.

Do this and post back with the numbers from the cat scale.

Full sized, for now, the imports are limited in GVWR, but once they do come out
with a +8K GVWR....they might take a big bite out of the market place like they
have with cars and half tons

There is one more bit of info the OP needs and is their TV's GCWR

Take the actual weight and subtract it from their GCWR. That resultant will be
the 'actual' weight trailer their TV is rated for

With all the seat belts filled, pets, cargo, etc...will most likely have the OP
very close to their TV's GVWR and RGAWR. Those two will really be the limiting
factors, IMHO

Then do NOT use the trailers 'dry' weight, but its *ACTUAL* weight
and if no actual weight available...us the trailers GVWR to figure
out the GCWR above

Thank you everyone. I need to go get the vehicle weighed and will come back with that info. So even with a wdh you are thinking I can't do it? According to my manual, the GCWR is 16000lbs and says the towing capacity is actually 8000lb.

The payload is the big limiting factor when towing with one of those trucks. Not the towing capacity. Figure 15% of the loaded trailer weight as the towing weight (tongue weight). A WDH just gives you better towing, it limits trailer sway and so on. It doesn't magically increase payload. Neither do air bags.

Does that truck have a towing package installed? That would include a transmission cooler which you will really want if you are towing near the truck's tow capacity.

Just as a comparison, one of the three 'American' manufacturers half ton trucks would have a payload from 1800 pounds to well over 2000 pounds with the tow package.

According to Edmunds, you only have 1280 payload capacity. That amount includes EVERYTHING you put in the SUV or on it. Such as you, passengers, equipment, toys, clothes,food, electronic toys, etc.

Then you have to include the tongue weight that in itself includes the WDH, battery(s), and propane. Your proposed trailer has a dry tongue weight of 550 lbs, but as mentioned above this figure is almost useless except when pulling the trailer from the dealer to home. It is best to use the trailer's GVWR (6780) and use 15% as the ratio factor which comes up to 1017 lbs. Typically, you'll probably never see this amount of tongue weight, but even at the minimum you'll see at least 700 to 800 lbs.

So, this leaves you only 480 lbs for everything you want to put in the car....like I said above...everything.

Can you do it? Probably, but you'll be at the extreme end of the payload limits (and probably over) for the car and I can guarantee you, the car will struggle up any hill at high rpms and a lower gear.

Yes, weigh the vehicle wih a full tank of gas, and everybody and everything in it that you would take on a trip. Your 1,200 lb. payload will likely limit you to a trailer with a GVW of around 3,500 lbs. or less. The weight of the WDH assembly will also count against your payload.
