But note that all these big numbers are reserved for the most expensive trims, specifically the Silverado LTZ, Silverado High Country, Sierra SLT, and Sierra Denali.
Why does GM absolutely REFUSE to offer the big engine in a base package? When I bought my Tundra in 2010 I looked at GM, Ford, Ram and Nissan as well. GM had the 6.2 back then (I think), but the only way I could get the 6.2L engine was to buy the $50,000+ model.
For someone like me who doesn't care about all the gadgets and upgrades and just wants a capable powertrain and few options (cruise, power windows/locks, AC, etc), GM still doesn't offer a competitive product. I could almost buy 2 Tundras for what a Denali costs...
Your statements are completely incorrect. I bought my 2012 1500 LT with the 403hp 6.2 off the lot. There is absolutly no way you had to get the "$50,000" model. It's been offered in LT models for years with and without the Max Tow option. 2014 is a different story. - 1oldtruckExplorer

simple buy a 2500hd, you'll have more payload, better towing capability and a better engine and pay less to get it. - HybridhunterExplorer

Lol. If you understand payload ratings, then generically calling it a "1/2 ton", is probably not accurate. Ford has a similar model F150 HD, that is not a "1/2 ton", payload is upwards of 3000lbs in that case. GM could do the same thing. I sure hope they put more than a 12 bolt under there.....Kalabin wrote:

So true, my 3500 6.0L combo was sure annoying with the excessive torque management. There was an article writen about it when the Tundra walloped the Silverado in acceleration testing. They explained it took the GM 4 full seconds before the TM allowed wide open thro - spoon059Explorer IIIThis engine sounds awesome and I am interested to see the mileage numbers... but this qoute is what leaves me scratching my head...

- kw_00ExplorerMans sounds awesome and all, but I really don't understand about the huge tow rating, when you run out of payload so fast....but I am sure some dude out there will be towing a mammoth fiver around claiming he can pull 12000lbs, yet be overloaded in payload....I would not feel comfortable pulling that much weight with a 1/2 ton truck...I know it's "beefed up" but still, a 12000 lb trailer is putting a large amount of pin weight on that truck. The normal everyday joe public, does not understand payload ratings... All he sees is what the advertiser wants him to see, and figures... Heck I can pull that.... Because the automaker said that I can.. Just like a guy the other day at work who owns a Titan...he swears up and down its a 3/4 ton truck... That's what he was told when he purchased it with the big tow package...anyway after I explained weight capacity and ratings he was frustrated knowing his payload was so minimal.....

With this motor and the 6.4L Hemi on the way, RVer's now have two more outstanding gasoline choices on the market.
Towing aside, how much fun must these engines be to merge onto the freeway with when empty? I'm guessing that they'll actually make the 7000lb trucks they motivate feel downright light on their feet & sporty.
If they keep as much Torque management on them as mine has..... it will be okay. I'm really interested to see the 6.4 and GM 6.2 HD truck shootouts whenever that happens. Should be fun! Anymore any of the big three are kicking out amazing gas trucks, its just what styling do you like more!
Yes, going to very interesting to see how the GM 6.2L & the Hemi 6.4L do "head to head," and I'm sure Ford will tweak their 6.2L for more output to keep up. With the type of outputs these two engines can claim, I have to wonder if they'll be able to tow heavy trailers, even uphill, just as well as their turbo'd oil-burning brothers. (Not trolling the diesel guys, just a thought)
Imagine telling someone in 1998 that they could eventually buy a bone-stock gas pickup with ~450hp/450tq and a 6-speed shiftable automatic. - KalabinExplorer
