So, let's throw some stones at the testing. I honestly think this was one of the less informative tests tht they have done. The dash camera wasn't really angled so you could make out much of what was going on.
The only time they talked about the speed they maintained was at the bottom of the hill. I would have been interested to see how fast they were going at the very top where it is steepest. My truck crests between 40 - 45 MPH with just my 5er (12,000 pounds), and slows down around 5 MPH if I add my 5000 pound boat.
Other tests they talked about engine and tranny temp. Never heard that here.
I would also like to have seen the decent, and how the exhaust brake worked. From the looks of the test, there must have been an accident going the other way, as the traffic west bound looked stacked up in all 3 lanes.
My prediction for when they run the Ford? The Ford will make it up the hill in less time.
Agree, Ford will do it faster....BUT, having owned a 2012 Ram HO 3500 CC/LB/4X4/4.10 and comparing to the 2013 Ram in my sig...The 13' tows harder and will top the mountains faster than my 12' did( comparing stock to stock)...towing the same 5er, (weight 16,300#). over the exact same terrain...The EB is awesome....When in T/H with EB in aggressive mode, I can take my foot off the throttle and truck will almost come to a complete stop after slowing and gearing down. With dual cooling, I've had zero issues with temps.
Don't know about that test and really don't care..I know that I could easily tow far more weight than I am right now and still have more than enough truck to do it with. - Bionic_ManExplorerSo, let's throw some stones at the testing. Why?
Then Ford shouldn't rate their F450 to tow 30,000# either. It's all a contest by the respective advertising departments - no matter the brand. They ALL do it - Ford, GM, and RAM.
I am with you that Ford(or any brand) shouldn't rate it that high either which is why I said this.....ShinerBock wrote:
That is fine, I don't think trucks like that should be towing 30,000 lbs in the first place. That should be left to medium duty commercial trucks. This "30,000 lbs towing battle" that Ford and Ram are doing is senseless which is why I applaud GM for staying out of it.
..... in this thread last week.
GM couldn't compete because their 3500 DRW wasn't rated high enough to compete with the Ram 3500 and the Ford F350 in the 30,000# weight competition.....Thus the reason they didn't compete...Though they could have competed with the weight in this test. No Reason for GM to compete, they've beaten both Ford and Ram in head to head test year after year. They really don't have anything to prove....The Ford with more HP and TQ should easily, I would think, win this competition..I didn't watch the link, but didn't buy my truck to see who could get to the top of the mountain first, or I would have stayed with Chevy if that had been what I was out for.. - NC_HaulerExplorer

$70,000 for loaded HD trucks now :E :E :E
I too think it is a ridiculous amount of money....BUT it does have it's "clique" in today's towing world...and when you think that loaded out, you're setting in the lap of luxury...Not a bad price for a medium duty in line 6 banger kicking out 385 HP and 865lbft of TQ,(850TQ in my case), with one of the strongest frames in the market for a 3500...all new front and rear suspension with two stage EB, 6 speed Aisin tranny, which is also a medium duty transmission strapped to the medium duty Cummings....RAWR of 9750, (AAM put's it at 11,800#), 14,000# GVWR with a GCWR of 37,500# (in my case with 4:10).....Not a bad price for all that in a 3500....and then their is ALL the loaded luxuries I'm not going to mention...Heck, this truck is my daily driver as well as towing machine and I love driving it...The wife loves driving it...all 5' 2" of her:).....I towed New River Gorge section of I64 with this truck towing my 16,300# (loaded ), 5er up that grade that was also advertised in one of the "tow off's"...6% grade for 5-6 miles, then over 3 miles of 7% before you top out...I maintained almost /right at 60 mph and truck wasn't struggling/downshifting or anything like that...just worked it's way up it, no problem..I tow this mountain at least once a year and easily maintains it's speed...and mine is an old 2013 :) ShinerBock wrote:

Shiner,
Don't sweat it... Just remind El Capitan that you drive a RAM and he'll give you a free pass from now on.
Does that mean that I shouldn't tell him I drive a Ford truck as well?
Well now you just had to throw a curve ball and "El Capitan de no Fish" will have to ponder on that one and most likely will have to seek the "dodge boys council" advice here at RV.net. :R
Anyways welcome to the forum... :B- ShinerBockExplorer
