- goducks10ExplorerI wonder what the payload will be when they introduce the V8 model. Sorta like 3/4 ton trucks. Get the gasser and get a good payload, get the diesel and payload drops fast.
Still don't get where Nissan is going with this truck. They had a winner when they decided to put the Cummins in it and totally dropped the ball on payload. - MitchF150Explorer IIILooks like they are still only 6 lug wheels and a semi float rear end...
#8800 GVWR used to be the old "3/4 ton" trucks.. Those came with 8 lugs and full floaters, but if it had a diesel in it, had low payload too...
From those TFLT vids on youtube, the XD didn't do all that great on mpg's as one would expect from a diesel...
I'll take my 13 F150 Ecoboost with #7700 GVWR, #4050 rear axle rating and #1920 payload that stickered for $43k, but I got it for #33k with 56 miles on it... :)
Mitch - They are in a tough spot in this class of truck. They could have thrown down the gauntlet and produced a 2500 or even 3500 series truck. They have all the pieces they need, the NV3500HD van has a GVWR of 9900 and a RGAWR of almost 7400, more than most SRW 3500 domestic trucks. But, they would have lost big time in the power specs, and there are no EPA fuel economy ratings in that class.
If they could just lighten the truck by 500 pounds to up the payload and lighten the price by $5K they could maybe have a winner. - blt2skiModeratorWeighs 7300 lbs, about the same a most CC domestic rigs with similar gvwr's. BUT at least those have a 6000-6800 grawr! so one can fudge the gvwr part and go with axel capacities.......
Not seeing anything in pics that says I NEED to look at this rig...... at least not yet!
marty - ksssExplorerI think it was predictable. I think I wrote that I could easily see a 1200 payload, I may have missed it by a couple hundred depending on how they are loaded, but the results were predetermined. Giving a half ton, 550 foot pounds of torque takes a substantial running gear to hold up to that power. Having to outsource all the key components doesn't allow them to save a lot of money. The MPG looks like it misses the mark and at 58K for a loaded pickup, the price is out of reality for what it can do.
The answer maybe for Nissan is to increase the payload and sell it as a 2500. At least then it can find purpose. This heavy half ton idea has been tried and dropped by others. I looked at one today that 58K as well. Nicely loaded, some cool ideas, but not at that price and not with those specs. - camp-n-familyExplorerWow, that is one heavy truck. A GVWR of 8800lbs but only 1488lbs of payload? The curb weight is more than the GVWR of most 1/2 ton trucks. That engine needs a diet.
- RinconVTRExplorer1488lbs actual per the sticker payload on the new XD.
OUCH! Nissan...what happen? This is going to kill sales of your truck!
How about a ridiculous comparison;
The Honda Pilot EX-L (Gen2 and 3) has a payload of exactly 1340lbs.
My 2010 Sequoia Limited, basically a short Tundra with a cap...1230lbs
WTH is going on with OEM's and payload! - PowerdudeExplorer1488 payload with a 4900 lb RAWR.
Total GVWR of 8800 lbs? It doesn't say what the GCWR is. Bummer.
Wow...underwhelming.
Somebody will buy it, probably for the fuel economy and the towing. It seems like it was designed by a committee...weird. - jerem0621Explorer IIThanks for sharing the pics...
I have a feeling that 1400 lbs in the bed will barely even be noticed... Think looks like it's built heavy.
Thanks!
Jeremiah
