To me, there's just too many benefits of diesel vs gas. I've towed with both, and my preference, hands down, is the diesel. Well worth the extra money or even cutting back on some of the niceties to get the diesel. X3 on the exhaust brake. That alone is a great upgrade, especially if you are in the mountains.
Better gas mileage (albeit maybe 2-4 MPG more), and gas roughly the same price (currently) another benefit. My 1500 gasser got about 9 MPG towing. My 2500 CTD I get 12.
Ability to use truck lanes for refuel, no need to dick around with the car lanes to fill up.
Better torque and no high revving gasser. Longer engine life in all likelihood.
Now that I've converted, I'll not go back.
