I've had both the 6.4 and the Cummins. A couple of Cummins now, actually.
Loved the 6.4 for a daily driver and towing a travel trailer of about 7k. Great engine. Solid performance, and even decent highway mileage.
But when we traded up to a ~13k fiver, I went back to the Cummins. The 6.4 would have done the job (if I'd have had the 6.4L 3500, rather than just the 2500), but the Cummins does it effortlessly. And when I'm looking for a weekend away, or on a vacation, "effortlessly" sounds pretty good. Less stress on the engine, and less stress on me.
All depends on what experience you're looking for. The 6.4 will do the job, and do it reliably, but with some extra rpms. The Cummins will do it easier, but with some extra pressure on your budget. RPMs or dollars? You make the call...
