That was the first thing I thought of... no more possible interference with your power tongue jack. - HammerboyExplorerI dont know, I think the tailgate is a little gimmicky. I haul stuff in the back of my truck all the time without any problems. Looks like an expensive tailgate to booger up plus more to go wrong and break. I like simple things.

At first I agreed the tailgate was gimmick. Then I saw this. Pretty cool actually. I've been debating on upgrading now or waiting until 2020 and the new HD comes out. This and push button start are a couple reasons for me to wait.

- Grit_dogNavigator^ Idk, maybe when I get older the step would be welcome. Admit I use the built in bumper steps on my Chevy occasionally because they're there, but a normal tailgate has been a work bench/saw horse since the invention of pickup trucks. Not sure what the "fast food tray" feature would be good for in the real world except maybe as a bar when tailgating!
And how is carbon fiber economical for a truck bed? Has it come down enough in price/mfg? Guess I'm still used to it being an exotic material for real lightweight applications. - TurnThePageExplorer

Put me firmly in the soccer dad category. That tailgate would be awesomely useful for those weekend trips to the big box stores. Much less work to secure a dozen 2x6s in the rain or snow. And being a month into my new bionic knee, those steps look very usable. My working man mode is firmly in the rear view mirror.
Tailgate in a tailgate is a total gimmick feature, but it'll sell more trucks to soccer dads and sell more fords to working men. - gmw_photosExplorer

Ha ha ! That's a good one Grit !!! I have a Ford dually and a Nissan Frontier, and the Frontier gets used by this "working man" around the horse farm a LOT more than the Ford.
I still think the tailgate on the new GMC looks very handy. - 2001400exExplorerAt first I agreed the tailgate was gimmick. Then I saw this. Pretty cool actually. - gmw_photosExplorerI think the tailgate is very cool. I use my daily driver truck around the horse farm, and am all the time needing a small work surface at standing height.
Same when I am traveling. When I am one the road it's usually for at least weeks at a time, and often months at a time, so always having to do a little work on something or another.
It's not that complex of a mechanical system there, so I don't see it having any real problems in use or time.
