2WD or 4WD

If you go with 2wd make sure to get the limited slip rear end.

I like the 4wd low range sometimes for positioning the trailer.

Personal choice, throw a dart, flip a coin or make a pro's and con list.

Either way enjoy.

You have already made the right choice by going with a GM Duramax.
The rest is just icing on the cake.

Seriously, we went with 4 WD just because it just didn't seem right to order a full featured, heavy duty diesel pickup without 4 WD.

Kind of like ordering a Mercedes 500 series with cloth seats.

IF you're driving in 'weather', or camping, and get stuck in wet grass or mud, or sand, or ???? only one time, you will know that answer without asking it.

Every truck I've bought since 1976 has been 4x4 ... and every one has needed (not just wanted, but needed) 4x4 numerous times. It makes more sense to have it, then not have it and need it.

Unless you spend your time only around town paved roads, I'd suggest spending the money and know your safer ... when you need it, nothing else will do - except maybe a tow-truck.

When we bought our GMC I was surprised to find ZERO 2wd trucks in towing trim. They had 2wd all day long for plain reg cab work trucks.

Personally, I was dissapointed. Don't see the need to have every truck 4wd. However, I did buy one as towing capacity seemed similar. And, in all honesty, have used it a few times this winter (snow!) Have nothing against it, but at the time i saw it as an added expense and option I didnt' need. Could have lived without it, but it is nice to have.

a couple of reasons i have 4x4. pull a heavy boat and need 4 w d to ge up slick boat ramps once in a while.

boon dock with T H and like to shift into low 4 wd on some forest service roads and 2 tracts. not for traction, but sometimes to crepe along very slowly at idle.

nice to have here in co for snow and icy roads too

Need 4X4 - only if you live where you get allot of snow. We are in snow country so a 4X4 is a must for me.

Get the 3500HD - higher payload and the ride will be close to the 2500HD.

The 4X4 has come in handy pulling in and out of some camping areas after allot of rain.

I do not think the mileage is that much different. Re-sale will be higher.

The 2WD 5th wheel towing capacity is about 500 lbs higher (at least it was on the 2011s - - 17,300 lbs 2WD, 16,800 lbs 4WD. The conventional towing is the same - 13,000 lbs. The payload on a 2WD is about 300 lbs more

The 2011 and newer trucks are a great towing rig - I have had a Duramax since 2004.

4X4 is a personal choice, but it will add to the resale value, and it appears you live in an area that will get snow from time to time.

This has been repeatedly asked. I had a 2wd dually in the early 90s (I think that is the only way Ford made them) And I only got in trouble at the race track parking lot after a lot of rain (This grass field was known to get soft). So, depends on what you will be doing with the truck. Tires make a world of difference, too.

Unless you will keep this truck forever you might consider what the next buyer will prefer. Seems like 4WD is very popular these days.
