7 pin connector wont fit...

So I took advice from this forum and ordered a new 7 pin cable since all wires had been spliced due to damage. The cable I received had a molded connector that is garbage. It looked good online but the slots are slightly too small and wont connect to my truck. Apparently a few others had the same problem with the connector. Some of the wire colors for lights are also swapped. Instead of paying shipping back should I just buy a new connector and wire it to cut my losses? are non molded connectors a no no? I havent heard back from the retailer yet. Thanks

    Make sure you put the new connector on the correct end of the wire. If you have it on the wrong end, the colors won't line up to the proper location on the connector and it will be really difficult to install.

    Any auto parts store should have the connector you need.

    Hey all, retailer refunded me the money and let me keep the cord. I have the flat connectors and this was the correct cord. The head just was made out of spec. Ill look into cutting it off and putting a new head on. The wires also appear to be the correct gauges.

    Yes, this is a rip off that should be banned. But, there are 2 different types of 7 pin connectors. Almost everyone, and their dog, uses the one style (sorry I don't remember what style that is) But, once in a awhile you get ripped off and end up buying the wrong style. It's confusing and is sucks. It gets worse and there are types that will plug into either style. I didn't know this until I found out the hard way just like you did.

    You might want to take this opportunity to look inside your TV 7-pin socket. Some have flat pins (or blades), and others have round pins.

    Be careful on what 7 conductor wire you puchase. Some don't have the same guage wires. You want one with #12 wires for the blue (brakes), the black (power) and the white (ground). The other wires will be #14, as I recall. #14 is fine for the aux. (backup lights) the brake lights and the left and right turn signals.

    I'd say contact eTrailer and get one from them. If it doesn't fit properly, they are liberal with their return policy, especially if you contact their Q&A people before hand for advice. Buy Curt brand if you can, they make a quality 7 pin connector that eTrailer.com carries.
