Ac unit condensation on ceiling

My ac unit is dripping condensation on the floor. I also has a line of condensation heading towards the back of the trailer. This line includes a ceiling light. I have pull the black foam, cleaned it , and turned off the ac unit.

Any ideas? Is this normal? We've been in this camper for a year. It was new when we purchased it.
  • I have had the same issue with my 2013 Laredo TT. I get a few drips on the floor under the main unit when I first start the AC. After it runs for about 30 minutes it stops. I think it is just some condensation on the unit inside the trailer that produces a few drops until the AC dries the air inside the trailer. I do see water dripping off the roof from the AC after it has been running, as it is designed to do. I have a 15000 BTU unit which cools the 27' trailer nicely. It does not leak in the rain and seems to be self correcting so I have not been concerned.
  • Be sure that when you level your trailer you give it a slight slant either frontward or backwards so that the condensation will run off the roof.
  • Thank you for all your input. As Newman suggested, I put my fan on low and continued to run my ac unit. Since yesterday, I have not had anymore problems to the extent I was. There is a small amount of condensation. On edge of the ceiling piece. Other than that I don't see anything else. We do not have a ladder to do work on the roof of our trailer, so checking and cleaning the drain holes will have to wait until we arrive back home. Old biscuit, your diagram is very helpful!!
  • I am almost betting your problem isn't so much condensation as it is a leak in the gasket and/or a sagging roof that creates a "lake" on the roof rather than running off as it should. About the only thing that would allow condensation to cause your problems is a very strong AC with a minimally insulated ceiling so the cold air interacts with the hot roof. Don't know as there is a lot you can do to correct it if that's your problem. Opening vents to allow some air movement may help it.
  • You will also get alot of condensation forming on the supply vent and dripping onto the floor if you have the door open alot of a vent/window open somewhere in the camper. The constant influx of new, humid outside air meeting the cold air coming out of the supply will condense.
  • This happened to us last week (sans the ceiling light) when our camper was less than a day old. None of the above was the problem. Technician thought it might have been a combination of high outside humidity and construction materials outgassing or whatever they do. Not sure if I buy that, but I'll look forward to other opinions on this forum.
  • Sounds like evap cooler drip pan drain holes are plugged.
As the 'hot' air from inside rig gets pulled thru filter and evap cooler it gives up its heat........as air cools moisture drops out of it. The moisture collects in evap cooler drip pan which has drain holes so the moisture can flow out on to roof (or drain lines on some installations).
If the moisture can not drain out it will get carried over in air stream by the blower and will then drip out of discharge grill.

Dirty air inlet filter, dirty evap cooler, running fan on low speed setting can also cause water collection.

Go up on roof, remove shroud then remove cover over evap cooler.
Clean evap cooler & drip pan/drain holes. Clean condenser cooler also. Then reinstall cover/shroud.

    Routinely change/clean inlet filter.

The 'hold down' bolts mentioned secure the A/C unit to roof. They should only be 'snug'. Over tightening will crush/warp roof gasket leading to leaks and need for replacement of roof gasket.
The roof gasket keeps rain etc. from leaking into rig around roof opening.
  • Check the drip pan under the coils on the roof. Drain holes probably plugged.
  • Its not uncommon for the ac mounting bolts to loosen over time. There should be four of them accessable by removing the interior shroud.Do not over tighten them.
  • froze up turn the fan only on at high and you probably need to clean it.in high humidity run the fan all the time
