The Honda should have no problem starting and running that size of AC - even without mods although those would certainly not hurt.

We installed a 9000 to our Summerwind as an aftermarket install, our 2000i starts and runs ours with no problem.

I installed the Mach 8 on mine, it's nice in that it's only 8" off the roof, but it's loud. The Honda runs it but it works it pretty hard.

You can't go directly by the btu ratings, go by the amp ratings as I believe there is an 11k that actually has a lower amp draw.

As hedge said, consider getting a powersaver model. My Honda 2K does great with it. Unless height is a concern. I'm Not sure they make a PS in the 8" model.
