Arctic Fox 990 Owners

I am looking at getting an Arctic Fox 990. I have a 2004 Dodge 3500 dually diesel with stock suspension. I am looking for what 990 owners have on their trucks in the way of suspension upgrades & how they like the upgrades. I would also like your comments about your Arctic Fox 990, what you like or don't like about it & any recommendations.

Thanks for your input,

Big Rig
  • No mods on ours. It could use overloads or a rear antisway bar but I'm actually still on the factory shocks at 85K miles. That reminds me, I need new shocks!

The older model lights were unsealed along the bottom edge to let water drain out. However, water could be forced in while driving in heavy rain. I converted to all LED outside. I'm now fully sealed at all outside light fixtures.

To the OP, recommend Torklift StableLoads. That should be enough or at least a great start.
  • We really like our 990 and our stock F350 diesel dually (plus Ranchos and Roadmasters) carries it well.
  • I have a 3500 dually 4x4 and a 990. I would recommend the stable loads or make your own version to engage the overloads early. Makes a big difference to stability. Don't waste money on air bags unless you find the rig tilts to one side too much. I also think good shocks are worth having like Bilsteins. Some say a rear sway bar but so far I'm happy with the mods I have made. An exhaust brake is a fantastic add on and I would not want to be without it.

Love the 990 and it's very functional layout. More storage would be nice but learning to carry less junk is also something I am learning. A lot of things you take along don't get used and are unnecessary. The large holding tanks are fantastic if you want to boondock. I also like the two 30 lb. propane tanks.

One thing I don't like is not having a comfortable place to spend time inside the camper. We don't like the settee for long evenings inside when the weather is bad. I know you can't expect to have matching Lazy Boy recliners in a camper so we just accept it.
  • My 990 is on a 3500 saw with just sumo springs. Lots of miles with no issues. You will like the 990 but fill your water tank with a tube vent every time. My current trip is nearing five months and wouldn't change a thing.
  • I don't think I would need any upgrades if I were running it on your truck.

But you will need to check your truck, as I'm reading on here that even two trucks the same model may not carry the same load. (from a post a day or two ago, some F350s don't have the same spring packs)

We have ours on a 2500HD. I ordered the truck with a trailer package and heavy duty camper package. To do this I had to upgrade to 3750# tires.

Although the truck sat level with the camper on and drove good, I added airlift 5000 springs to bring the truck partially back up to unloaded height. 15# of air just sits the springs on the overloads.

I think I'd like to try stable loads but can't justify the cost because it drive real good.

Put the camper on and drive it a little and you'll be able to decide whether you really need to change anything.

    Good luck,
  • I had an Arctic Fox 1150 on my 05 Dodge dually and all I needed were stable-loads. That's all I'd use if I had your set-up. Stable-loads are really easy to home-make for our Dodges too if you want to save the money. I have $10 in materials plus about 2 hours of easy labor building them.
  • You should be fine. Test truck first. Then decide. I know members here haul AF 990s with Dodge 2500 SRW with only airbags and Nitto high load index tires.
