Buddy is now driving a ticking time bomb
A friend of mine has a 2012 2500 HD Duramax 4x4.
He filled it up the other day at a local gas station, then was driving around running errands, driving it to work, etc. I don't have all the details.
Anyway, as he's driving, the truck sputters and dies. He pulls over and restarts it, and it coughs back to life and he drives on. He then shuts it down, goes into a store and when he comes back out, it won't restart. It's a pretty low mileage truck, still under warranty, so he calls the dealer and has it towed in. They tell him they will diagnose it and get back to him once they know what the issue is.
They call him back a while later and say they found the issue. Gasoline in the diesel tank! He knows he filled it from the diesel pump as it is a separate island from the gas pumps at the local retailer. He calls local retailer. They say: "Oh yeah, our tanker guy filled the in ground diesel tank with gasoline by mistake." and they fully willing to pay for repairs. They asked him where his truck was being fixed, etc.
Here's the problem....he will likely get the truck back with the tank drained and it back to running condition, but I wonder what kind of damage has been done to the not so robust Bosch CP4 pump. I don't think I'd want to own that when the pump grenades, GM tells him it's not a warranty item, and the retailer says "prove it". Yikes.
