Camping in FL

We're seriously contemplating a move to Lakeland, FL. Know summers are a bit on the toasty size, but what is a reasonable amount of the year when you can comfortably camp. We have several side-issues to consider with this move, and whether Rocky will stay in the family is up for discussion. Just wondering if it's cost effective and how much of the year we'd actually use it. We don't take extended trips often and likely even less often with the new living situation. So areas within 100 miles of Lakeland would be most likely the max. The community we're interested in does have RV storage on site for $30 a month, which seems more than reasonable. But...it's outside and we've always stored undercover 24/7. What about the wear and tear on Rocky sitting outside? Having trouble justifying maybe only getting out 3 or 4 times a year, but paying our minimal payment, insurance and storage + maintenance. Thoughts?

  • As far as the dogs go , there are a few million dogs who love Florida !Lots of parks , year round , come on you will love it !
  • We camp in the summer here. But there has to be a pool or spring and shade and 50A. The springs are awesome.

Evenings are tolerable outside with a few fans.

There are also places where its too muddy or wet or both when there are rains.

Some of the nicer resorts do Passport or special off season pricing.
  • As others have said, October to May are the best months. The summer months are warm. Just make sure your campsite is in the shade and use the A/C. So it is relay a matter of just how much you want to camp.

That is the great thing about Florida life. Our sports are year round.

By the way, the first summer you live in Florida will be the worst as your body adjusts. Year two on will get easier.

  • For us, the best camping in Fl is from Late October to May. I have no idea who or what Rocky is ? Assuming from the rescue in your sig he is a K9? If so, depending on his condition the summer heat / humidity could be tough!

    Good luck!
