Chrysler is always losing money. Fiat bought a lame duck from Mercedes.
Honestly, that's the biggest thing holding me back from buying a Ram with a Cummins.
All of the Chrysler products we have ever owned never lasted, or had major problems well before 120k miles were up. Pieces of crap.
Amen Brother!
Chrysler should have died in the 80's Then again in 2008. There is a reason almost all places that rank long term dependability put Chrysler Corp. vehicles (Ram, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep) at the bottom of the rungs.
You don't make $$ by putting the most cash on the hood like Chrysler does. - itguy08Explorer

If it happens I hope GM doesn't mess the Ram and Cummins.
Why? The only thing "good" about Ram is the Cummins and it would be in a better (GM) truck anyway.
Still don't get what GM would want with Chrapsler. The only brand worth keeping would be Jeep. - JALLEN4Explorer

Oh the thought of Jeep being made by GM makes my skin crawl.
Actually from the sound of the article FCA wants to buy GM! So I guess that would mean a Hemi in the Corvette!!!
Fiat Chrysler is doing very well compared to GM. GM is hurting, but I think they are holding out for more $$$ from either FCA or someone else.
At the end of 2014, GM had 23.5 billion of cash on hand, net income was 2.8 billion in 2014, and was the worlds second largest auto manufacturer. Does not sound as if though they are struggling nor a potential seller to Fiat. RobertRyan wrote:

Gee I remember when Jeep used the 90 degree Buick V6....one of the finest engines ever made.
I remember when Jeep was built by AMC... And then Chrysler took over.
I seriously doubt GM will partner, purchase, merge, in any shape or fiscal form with Fiat or the Chrysler Corp. division.
I believe Marchionne already posed the question to GM, Ford, Apple and perhaps Microsoft with no takers.
I'm older than dirt :Band I recall the days when Jeep was Willys Jeep.
I wonder if Fiat wants to dump Chrysler...like Mercedes did ? If they do, I'm not sure what the long term future of Chrysler will be. I haven't read all the other posts, perhaps this has been previously discussed.
I hope whatever happens Chrysler in one form or the other, continues to survive.
My son bought a new 2014 Jeep Patriot, with the off road package last year and in my limited experience with this SUV...it's a very good, reliable, durable, capable vehicle. Chrysler has some excellent product.
Possibly that is what will happen. FCA, with exception of Ferrari and the IVECO/ CNH is Jeep, the others do not exist. Fiat is tiny as a car brand, the U.S. Chrysler brands are as recognisable as Moskovitch in the U.S.
The timing of this act seams questionable (but not surprising) just after Fiat purchased the last stake of Chrysler from the retiree medical trusts union that owned the last 41% of Chrysler back in January '15.- RobertRyanExplorer

My '89 Plymouth Grand Voyager had 240K miles when I sold it. Although, it did need regular infusions of cash (alternator and fuel pump would go out like clockwork every x thousand miles).
Too bad they can't get Toyota or Hyundai or Honda to take over the Jeep brand. Quality surely would improve. I certainly would like to see the brand live on. No one else makes anything like a Wrangler. Even the Grand Cherokee is pretty unique... full time 4WD, low range available, skid plates, raisable air suspension, yet a comfortable and controlled ride on the highway.
