Funny watching the Mopar guys making more excuses to why Chrysler is not in trouble. Saw it in '08 when quality was in the tank. "Wait till the new stuff hits, its world class", "that's because they are in bankruptcy, "Daimler killed them". Well, here we are in 2015 with new product and the most unreliable vehicles are.... Chrysler brands!
You can't survive on the highest incentives in the industry and the lowest margins either. Sergio thought he could "Fix" Chrysler. They are the last in a long line of people that have tried.
Stick a fork in them, they are done!
There have been pluses and minuses to the Fiat merger. I think the biggest problem is Marchionne. He appears to not give a @#$@# about Chrysler production or it's impact on local and national economies.
If he could Italianize all of Chrysler, he'd do it.
GM isn't exactly a "cash cow" that can take on Chrysler's production and underbelly of facilities related to auto and truck production. - eightballsidepoExplorerI'm the author of this thread, and my greatest concern is that my area where I live which is in the Toledo, Ohio area will not end up
losing Jeep production.
Secondly, my anti-trust violation comment is also important.
GM and Chrysler...........That would create a monopoly or nearly so.
I think Chrysler can go it alone or let Marchionne sell to a smaller automaker or a non-automaker that has a successful record with "start ups".
The Toledo area is hurting as so much heavy industry has vacated this area, but Jeep was their shining light. There was even talk of expansion of the plant utilizing much of its power needs via Methane generation from a nearby ancient landfill.
People are hungry for jobs up here, and Jeep has been one of it's mainstays. - itguy08ExplorerFunny watching the Mopar guys making more excuses to why Chrysler is not in trouble. Old news.
Chrysler is always losing money. Fiat bought a lame duck from Mercedes.
Honestly, that's the biggest thing holding me back from buying a Ram with a Cummins.
All of the Chrysler products we have ever owned never lasted, or had major problems well before 120k miles were up. Pieces of crap.
I have never had any issues with my Chrysler products over the years. In fact, I am a government vehicle fleet technician. The oldest vehicles we have in the fleet are Dodges. Not just at my Base, but it is that way all over the Country. They go a lot further on their maintenance budget allocation than any other brand. It is not how many years older our Dodges are than the others, in many cases it is how many DECADES older our Dodges are than the others. We still have some here from the early '70's, still running strong. - Community AlumniLink
Without the benefit of the change in tax status FCA US would have earned a profit of just $312 million compared with a profit of $486 million.
Ford, in contrast, earned $1.3 billion in pre-tax profits in North America during the first quarter and General Motors earned $2.2 billion."(Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) appears to be fundamentally overvalued. It has very limited profitability, it is so loaded with debt it makes little in the way of earnings, it is burning cash and it is not able to pay dividends," Bernstein Research analyst Max Warburton said in a report published earlier this week.

What I see GM has sold is:
2011 2,503,820 vehicles in the US, 9,000,000 Globally
2012 2,595,717 vehicles in the US 9,288,000 Globally
2013 2,786,078 vehicles in the US 9,715,000 Globally
2014 2,935,008 vehicles in the US 9,925,00 Globally
You have consistently stated GM is hurting without giving any facts or sources. Please inform us of what GM has sold off in the last few years.
Selling cars does not mean a company makeing money! Or in good financial shape!
Dodge Guy, your protestations simply make no sense.
1. They sell as many vehicles as basically any other manufacturer.
2. They are now and have been for several years since the bankruptcy, very profitable. Read their statements!
3. They have an extremely large cash reserve.
4. Their profit margins are almost triple those for Chrysler.
5. Sergio, hat in hand, begged for them to consider merging and they refused to even meet with him. You would think he, better than any of us, would certainly know that they financially could or could not take them to a better place before begging.
6. Seldom do you see beggars on the street concentrating on other broke people. Usually they go for the obviously better off. - philhExplorer IIFrom Detroit Free Press
... But that hasn't stopped Marchionne from continuing to talk to other CEOs, Wall Street analysts and the media about what he sees as the need for industry consolidation at almost every chance he gets.
...
Barra, Ford CEO Mark Fields, PSA/Peugeot-Citroen CEO Carlos Tavares, Toyota CEO of North America Jim Lentz, CEO and others have all said their companies are not currently interested in a deal with Marchionne.
