Yep, there is misinformation and hype on both sides of the argument. Well, generally I try and provide accurate non-confrontational information on charging formats, times, habits, networks, access and occasionally costs. There is a tremendous amount of bad information floating around about charging.
I provide pictures when I can. Cost varies so much by region one needs to do their own research on cost.
We are able to provide true personal experience from 5 years of living with EV’s from the two most common brands, Tesla and Nissan. Interestingly enough my favourite EV is neither of those as my taste still leans towards the Jaguar I-pace. Maybe a someday replacement for my leaf but not anytime soon.
I can’t imagine any of my posts being an advertisement for any particular brand of BEV but hey it’s all context I suppose. It’s hard not to focus a lot on Tesla as they are the definitive name in EV’s right now. That may change some day but now everybody else combined doesn’t make as many EV’s as Tesla and that won’t change for awhile.

I'll be suspect of advertising and hyping Tesla and Elon again.
I just bought more Tesla stocks,:R
I don't really mind Tesla and Elon (he is really nuts sometimes). Some of them are nastier in the Tesla owner's forum. And it's not a crime yet, but too, a lot are just stupid. But, they provide entertainment and fuel for witty snarky comebacks. So who cares, really.
Again, a lot of the techie analysis are pure gem. At that @Reisender is what you've been providing here. As for me, what do I know?:Z - ShinerBockExplorer

I was not pointing at you regarding this. For the most part you give a logical responses in these debates and take obstacles in consideration into implementation timelines. Just as I do within my career, I admire those that see these obstacles and think of ways to overcome them rather than bury their head in the sand pretending like they are not real or someone else's problem.
However, there are others here who are more on the extreme end and are irrational. What these people don't know is they they are actually making it worse for their cause by doing this. Tesla fanboys have gained a reputation among journalist and the rest of the internet for being the worst and I bet that many people who hold Tesla in disdain has a lot to do with Tesla's fan base. Many cannot discern from their own opinions/beliefs from actual facts, and there is a big difference between the two. ShinerBock wrote:

Marty, I think we need a ICE vs BEV sticky thread similar to the diesel vs gas one. It is just the same old circle jerk over and over every time it gets posted every other month which seems to be done for advertisement and/or profit reasons.
I think a sticky would be usefull also. It would provide a reference for those searching for answers about EV’s. So much misinformation out there.
I’m not sure I follow the advertisement or profit comment though. People search for answers on ICE vehicles as well. Doesn’t mean those giving the answers are advertising or profiting.
This is a community forum. If misinfirmation is posted someone from the community usually corrects it. It’s new technology. There is bound to be misinformation out there.

As far as advertisement. It is one thing to root for all BEV's, but it is another for just one brand specifically on a constant basis especially if you profit from it somehow either directly or indirectly.

Shiner - you mean you don't want me talking about my Bolt EV or my order on my GMC Hummer? Telling you how great my Ultium battery will be! How the design allows them to be stacked or alongside each other. How they will scale from 50 to over 200 kWh. How the electronic components will be embedded within the modules.
And yes, I haven't shared anything about what I am driving. It does pull 15k pounds, has over 3 tons payload, and does a great job.
That is not what I said, and I believe I made it clear what the difference was. - DadoffourgirlsExplorerShiner - you mean you don't want me talking about my Bolt EV or my order on my GMC Hummer? So let’s say a person is okay owning a pickup truck for many years. Doesn’t feel the need to change to the bigger distraction screen and bigger than a Kenworth’s grille (look underneath - they still come with wagon springs ... except that stupid air ride the class 8 world hasn’t figured out is no good - I digress)...
Everything turns relatively slow in an electric wheel end motor vehicle, nothing really reciprocates, the main propulsion uses electron pressure which should still be around in 20 years ... lower vibration frequency, and wear rpm, no corrosive gas exhaust system, no leaking fuel system, no prop shaft, no hydraulic transmission or steering system (or brakes?) no gear reduction axles with bearings failing, no leaking radiator, no it’s too cold it won’t start, no idling, ...
The main issue now is battery and recharge technology...
What if battery technology keeps evolving and your 10 year old EV can have new tech swapped in vs a total replacement of the vehicle?
What if the 4 cylinder engine in my mid 2000’s Ford Model A 1/4 ton pickup ( Ranger ) has more power and efficiency and lifespan than my neighbors restored 1928 Model A pickup?
The basic flaw in this line of thought is...40-50yr old idea that engines only last 50-100k miles and then you have to replace the vehicle or do a major overhaul. Most modern vehicles that go to the junkyard have perfectly functional engines. The number of parts in an ICE isn't a serious issue. They've worked out the bugs.
Even if you want to replace or upgrade your engine, it's really pretty cheap relative to the cost of a new car. $3-5k will replace your average car engine. Even V8 pickup engines aren't much more. Compare that to $30-50k for a new vehicle and financially, replacing the engine makes sense yet people as a group, don't do that. You will find the occasional guy with a 40-50yr old vehicle they keep up perfectly because they love it but most are show cars. Very few are daily drivers.
So in terms of large scale marketing, your idea won't make them viable. - Grit_dogNavigator
