I'm with you on the biased drama, but even those numbers in the image are pretty sad. I know that the "1/2 ton" etc. monikers are somewhat obsolete, but I also think it's reasonable for a pickup marketed as a "1/2 ton" with 4 doors should be able to handle a family of 4 and carry 1000 pounds in the bed without overloading. Many "1/2 tons" of all brands fall well short of that.- JJ_SpectreExplorer

No real bias, but the Ford and Chev have higher numbers with the right option group. I love the Hemi, but need more payload, and wasn't willing to daily drive a 2500 to get both. I also think the small diesel is a great development. I hope they all build one and drive the completion for power and payload higher. - 45RicochetExplorerHey that's more like it. Then there is always this

When you said comparing "across the board", thought you were comparing all...sorry. I don't really keep up with 1/2 ton payloads..of any brand.
I figured that was the confusion. I use my truck as a daily driver and primary vehicle for a family of 5, so a 2500 or 3500 are pretty much out of the question when diesel is 1.40/litre and gas is 1.25/ litre. - otrfunExplorer III'm not a big Ram fan, but gotta admit biased drama gets old. - NC_HaulerExplorerbmanning, I agree with your analysis:)
- bmanningExplorerNo shortage of opinions here so I'll toss mine in:
Will the Ram 1500 diesel be for everyone, or every RV'er?
No.
If you like your RVs large, the Ram 1500 isn't for you.
Could it be a great truck for someone who has a small-to-medium TT or boat, and truly doesn't need more than a half-ton? A guy or lady that really likes a truck as a DD but would love a bit better MPG?
Yes.
I think Ram's intend is to grab a large piece of the half-ton market, period. If one needs more truck, one can walk across the lot and- hey what's that?- it's a 2500 or 3500 with an 850ft-lb CTD or 400+HP gas V8 and plenty of payload for larger tasks. - NC_HaulerExplorer

Rams have lower payload numbers across the board when you do a side by side comparison? Are you sure about that?...
Yes.
I was assuming that we were restricting the conversation to 1500s, my apologies if that wasn't obvious.
