Diesel Titan Info

Here is a little info video on the new Nissan Titan Diesel. The shape reminds me of the GM's. Just form looks I wish it was a little taller in the front (also like the GM's). And I think it will be a 1/2 ton as in one part the passenger says it is going to have more power for towing than any half ton needs?

  • The Titans (and other Nissan trucks) have always been good trucks, but they're burdened with some quirky styling--like a funky looking tailgate. Nissan in the meantime put their styling and engineering talents on their cars and some SUVs. They've essentially ignored engineering on their trucks.

The new generation truck appears to be a nice looking truck. My question is whether their mechanics are going to be modernized?

The diesel engine was originally a partnership with Toyota, and Cummins spent $ hundreds of millions on engineering, tooling and people to build it. Then Toyota pulled out of the partnership. I would think Cummins has offered Nissan a deal they couldn't refuse--but they've waited for the new truck to bring it to market. I just hope the truck has a really heavy duty chassis to use 550 ft. lbs. of torque--about the same as my 7.3 had originally.

It's about time Nissan put their attentions to the really profitable truck segment of the retail market. They've really blown profits in recent years by making autos their main priority.
  • Will be interesting to see the weight of the engine (and payload of the truck) as well as the MPG.

I am almost 100% that it was already announced that Toyota will get this as well.
  • The Titan is an interesting truck. They seem to still be going after the market of those who want power without a big concern for fuel economy. I'm not sure they're so concerned about towing. I'm sure it will be capable, but I don't think it's their focus.

To me it's more about big lifted trucks with lots of power. See them all the time around here.

I have three 5.6 Titans in my fleet and they have been really good trucks. They don't tow with them but neither do any of the half-ton trucks in the fleet (project managers).

    Payload, payload, & payload.

IMO, payload will define this truck's competitiveness in the marketplace. Ideally, it'll have similar payload as the F150 with the Heavy Duty Payload Package. Much less and it'll be a waste of the Cummins V8's 550 ft. lb. of torque. With enough payload the Nissan Cummins V8 (with low 20's MPG) could easily take sales away from the 3/4 ton gassers.

Agree with your comments. What I think will happen here is a truck with 1500pds of payload but could pull 15000pds from a dead stop with ease. Useless at the end of the day.
  • Yea this is where I am interested. As the next trailer that we want only goes about 9k wet. I do not need 30k towing or 800+ TQ

  • I am putting off buying until I see what Nissan, and rumors are flying that Toyota will be using the 5.0 Cummins, also. As I said, if Ram would have used the 5.0 in a 2500 series truck, maybe with an 8800lb GVW like my 89 F250 Diesel had, I would have been all over it.
  • I think this will be a great thing for Nissan. Buyers will soon have two choices for a 1/2 ton diesel. The 5.0 Cummins might not get the fuel economy of the Ram Ecodiesel, but it will be stronger for towing needs. This is a good thing, to have more great choices available for consumers.
