Well, that does depend on how long the daily commute is. If it is only 2 or 3 miles, NO vehicle likes that. The exhaust system rots out early, the valves foul, if ya got only that far to go, walk or ride a bicycle.
If you drive far enough to get the engine and exhaust system up to proper operating temperature, in the winter, any vehicle, gas or diesel, will be much happier.
And it your daily commute involves a half hour or more at highway speeds, a diesel can't be beat for a daily driver.
