It's not the springs, it's simply interpreting the sticker on the B pillar incorrectly as being total payload instead of payload per each tire for that specific application.

My 'tire' sticker states 1218 lbs payload including passengers and loads. So that would be times 4 or 4872 lbs plus the curb weight of the truck which is 5300 lbs for a total of 10172 lbs. My tire Goodyear capacity is 2601 lbs each or 10404 lbs in total.

I was/am looking into a 1500 Diesel, and know that if I do, I will be over payload. That is why I am also eyeballing the 2500s with rear air.

Wait until you see the numbers for the 1500 with the diesel. They are as low as 850lbs :E

I've looked at several door stickers on Ram 1500's and from what I see there's little difference between the 17 and 20 inch wheels. What really destroys capacity is the long rear doors and 4x4 so far a I can see. So if you want a Ram 1500 for towing stick with the Quadcab and avoid the 4x4 if you don't need it. I'd expect a truck like that to have 1450-1500lb CCC.

There are two stickers, one on the door itself and one on the B pillar. The door sticker is the Ram capacity, i.e. 6800 GVWR. From that you need to take off the curb weight which is 5300 lbs for mine. This would provide a payload of 1500 lbs.

The B pillar is the tire rating with whatever tires the truck is delivered with and it is my understanding the number is relative to load for each tire on the Ram application.

I know that the tires on my Ram are Goodyear Wrangler SR-A, 275/60/R20 and they are load rated at 2601 lbs each max or 10404 lbs for 4 assuming even share load. This would provide ample payload from a tires perspective.

One thing to remember is that with a WD hitch 'up to' 30% of the hitch weight can be distributed back to the trailer. It is my understanding that tyically it is 15-20% of the raw tongue weight.

It is what it is. Your payload is at the max with the trailer and family. Nothing wrong with that.

My VW passat and my 2014 Ram have the same payload rating!!

I added airlift 1000 airbags and plan to tow slightly over my payload rating. Going to weigh everything on our way out Memorial Day weekend.

No. Tow rating may include a single 150 pound driver. Payload per the tire and loading sticker does not.

2009+ Ram has the lowest payload in the class. 1100 pounds sounds right for a crew cab 4WD Laramie. There are lower. The Rambox option alone uses up about 150 pounds. Side steps 50-100 pounds. Laramie Longhorn is lower, and the Ecodiesel is also lower. The Platinum trim F-150 has the same issue. I have seen under 800 pounds for both F-150 and Ram 1500 since 2009. 10k tow rating 1100 pounds of payload - tow a nice boat without the family. Plenty of power and gearing.

The spring rate is quite low. I don't know if that is protecting any other component on the truck. Many people with them increase the rear suspension effective rate (air bags, Timbrens). IMHO, they are masking the overloaded situation.

I got the E2 WD hitch with sway control....
I asked for some opinions on it, but didn't get any feedback...
