Dometic Friction Cooling Off

New 2017 rockwood 2906ws with Dometic frig. Brought home this afternoon plugged in to 110. Cooling using auto which puts on electric. The freezer seems to be cooling down fast, frig not so quick. I know it is much bigger space. Will it cool quicker using propane? Outside behind the frig by the grill you can hear a noise which I assume is the gas inside cooling. Sounds like small motor. First to admit I know very little how the Rv frig works. Looking for others experience. Thanks.
  • It takes quite awhile, up to 24 hours on hot days but it should be safe to put food in within 6 hours on a normal day. The motor sound might be electric fans some manufacturers install to aid airflow over the back of the cooling unit. I haven't found them to be necessary myself. Propane does cool the fridge off faster and will keep it cold better on hot days, but not by much.
  • Thanks everyone, it is in a slide out so,has a fan that makes the noise. Cooling well this morning, just needed overnight.
  • Yep, not surprising at all.

I was measuring the cooling on mine last time I plugged it in. After 3 hours it had dropped from about 75 to 55 in the fridge. My last check was around 9PM and by 7AM the next morning it was 35 degrees. I'm assuming at around 6 hours or so it was close to the "safe" zone.
  • We plug ours in a day before we load up to leave. Our unit switches between gas and electricity automatically. I do not know which his faster.

I always use electricity when available, it is cheaper than propane.
