DPF & engine brakes & EFI tuners.. Should I ??

Look at the 2006.5 & 2007's as well. Nearly the same numbers as the 07.5, and they didn't come with a dpf. Unless you really like the new body styles..

Thanks guys. That's what I needed to read.. You hear so much 'stuff' on forums one needs to post questions to find out validity of you just read. I'm gonna be a dam expert before I even find the truck :B

Shopping... My goal is to find something for $20k +/- From all I have read, I like the GM product for 2007.5 and newer. Not afraid of a 150-200k mile truck...
Will use while touring without the trailer during the trip, some of it offroad, so I want it as compact as possible. Looking at ext cab or CC, 4x4, standard or short bed.

That info was great as you have (according to your sig) what I am shopping for truckwise. I think my trailer is a tad heavier at 11,000 dry..

The people that make the DPF delete kits themselves say the best possible gain is 7%. With a tuner you may get a 10% gain. I calculated the probably payback on the cost and it was at around 75,000 miles to recover the cost of the changes.

I would not do it anyway as it is illegal and is wrong. Anyone remember that there is this strange concept of right and wrong. Wrong is changing your engine so the DPF no longer captures 99% of the soot from the engine and instead letting it out into the air. If that seems ethical then you might as well dispose of your household garbage by throwing it in the back of the truck and drive town the street with the tailgate open. You can save money on oil changes by dumping the oil into the gutter and into the sewers.

I remember in the 1970's when people were removing their catalytic converters so they did not have to buy unleaded gasoline. Now few people bother. With the truck fleet operators there is complete compliance with the laws. It is only the yahoo with the pickup who is too cheap and too thoughtless who removes emissions control equipment.

I can't imagine taking a brand new $50K+ truck trashing it by doing "deletes". They have very little effect on FE and as others have explained, can cost you plenty in the end.
Buy the truck and drive it and enjoy it for a while before thinking you have to do anything to it.

DPF on tuning is also very good, better economy and fewer regens all while maintains your EPA mandated exhaust cork.

It would be helpful if you posted details on the truck.

I also think you would be better off going to a forum that is dedicated to your brand of truck and get some opinions over there. You are more likely to get some balanced opinions of the advantages and disadvantages of deleting. This thread isn't bad yet, but it usually turns so with people vehemently against deletes that have very little real experience with it.

I have chosen not to delete because I value my warranty and Colorado does emissions testing. That said, the draw of more power and better MPG is strong.

The truck handles my 10k 5er with ease, and handles my gooseneck, loaded to 20k without issue. I did decide to add a VVT turbo brake. I am extremely happy with that addition. I have had zero issues with the DPF on my truck, and am hopeful that I never do have an issue. And I'm not worried about the mileage I get. 10 ave towing, and 18 ave highway unloaded. So, to each their own, but to me it was...why complicate things.

You missed number 3.

3. Can you afford a 10K fine as the feds continue to crack down on deletes. Right now they are going after the supplier of the equipment to delete and the people that provide programs to tune around the delete. At some point they may start going after individuals. They are serious about this!

Best bet is to just buy a pre 2007.5 truck or a newer one that uses DEF. The ones in between are problematic, and it is best to just be avoided them.

Removing a DPF can be good and bad. The good, you get better mileage out of the truck. The bad, you void any warranty, your truck may not pass inspection in your state, it is against the law, and you may not be able to trade it in.
