As title describes. Got the engine light on the weekend. Dropped truck off and they called saying EGR cooler needs replacing. Advisor said my bumper to bumper is done. I said it is covered under the emission warranty that is 5 year/50 mile or up here 5 year/ 80 km. She said she would look into it. I think I am right on this one. did some research. Should never come to that but..... All issues I have had had been emission related: nox sensor, def tank, temp sensor, recall for reflash of pcm, forgetting something. Truck is 2012 with 62,000 km. Lightly used. I bet the easy driving and short commutes in the first year of ownership led to some of the above issues. Any of you have this issue with your 6.7? Thanks

What does your idle time look like? High idle time and stop & go commutes really don't help with EGR flow rates. Ambulance and paramedics are the industries most hit with EGR issues because of the extreme idling and city duty-cycle of driving. That's why with my personal truck, I try to commute at times with the most free-flowing traffic and only use my trucks for longer trips. Wife's rig picks up the around town short trips since her vehicle is a gasser.

I took my truck in last year for a PCM flash which was a emissions related recall flash which took about an hour.BTW... A good diesel tech would disassemble the EGR cooler and replace the bad part rather than replace the hole EGR cooler.

2012 F-350 6.7 has been perfect at 62K mi. Knock wood. Good news is that EGR cooler among other things was designed by Ford for easy serviceability, meaning lower labor cost. EGR problems on the 6.7 are not nearly as common as on the 6.0 or 6.4.

Would this repair not be covered under the 5 year/160 kms diesel engine warranty? If not I agree it should be covered under emissions warranty. Good luck and please keep us posted.

I would have to agree that the short commutes probably lead to the issues you are having especially in the colder weather. Short commutes and long idling would wreak havoc on any of the diesel emissions systems today regardless of make. Although I would think that it would be covered under power train or emissions warranty.

I have 63k on mine, only problem is a def heater keeps causing engine light to come on. Also not covered by emissions warranty? My point to tech was I just went through winter with no problems cleaning exhaust filter. Not sure what is going on, maybe a wiring issue is the thought.

How do you disassemble it? It's a fully welded unit. I thought they cleaned them since they can't be disassembled. You can disassemble the EGR valve.

No doubt the earlier driving habits and short commutes contributed to the problem.
It was the advisor telling me the cooler needed replacing. I know they can be cleaned but if under warranty I am fine with replacing!
I have watched the idle issue after the first year when a sensor went. I actually record the ratio of engine run vs. idle for the past 20 months and track it.
With camping starting for us, working the truck should be a non issue luggin the toyhauler around in the western mountains.
