- LynnmorExplorerMy 1965 Oldsmobile 442 had points, my brothers 1967 had electronic ignition. So to answer your question, look for vehicles at least 50 years old.

I was thinking mid 70's, but there are plenty here older than that. - Hank85713Explorerghostrider421 You are probably right. My 72 ford ranchero had points and condensor and I remember some others to the mid 70s as having them. I think gm was the 1st to claim it had electronic ignitions. do a google search. I just remembered by BIL let me use his f250 back in 82 or so and it was still points equipped. I remember installing plugs and points for a trip where we borrowed it. My 89 was pointless.
- GrooverExplorer IIThe only thing that I really remember on my 1972 Chrysler was breakerless ignition replacing the points which was really an improvement. The F250 mentioned above may have been exempt from regulations longer than cars so answers could vary. Personally, I have no desire to every have points again.

Not stock he didn't! I had a 1970 and from 1962-1970 they all ran the same distributor and they all ran points and condenser not HEI or any other from of pointless distributor.
think I'm wrong? Look up a tune up kit for a 1967 Old's L78 442 400 V8, it uses points and condenser. EDITED for correct engine displacement of 400 CID not 455 CID My Bad.
GM ran points and condenser all the way up tell 1984? They did start putting the HEI coil on top of cap sometime around 1973? That would knock you on your butt if you got hit by it lol. But that system still used points and condenser and had the little metal window to adjust the dwell angle of the points. It was 30* if I remember correctly.
Don - BedlamModerator1970 Renault 10, 1974 Volkswagen Beetle and Ford Torino, 1976 Ford Pinto, 1978 Opel Ascona were the cars I owned with points. I still have a 1957 VW using them.
- GordonThreeExplorerLooking for a truck that will survive an EMP?
- AlmostAnOldGuyExplorerLast car with points was ‘72 Chevy. Had a two barrel Rochester carb you could rebuild in an hour. Simple engine to maintain. Gutless.
To avoid ignition issues there is always diesel. ; )
Good luck,

Won't worry about that. I'm just trying to find a cheap, easy to keep truck down here in SoAmer. - ghostrider421Explorer
