- hone_eagleExplorerOr to put it more clearly the Chrylser arm earned 11.9 billion and Fiat is sending it to Europe.
Hope it makes money for both. - hone_eagleExplorer

Chrysler had no cash, that is why Fiat now owns Chrysler. Fiat owns Maserati, Ferrari, Lancia and Alfa Romeo, I'm thinking they should be able to build some decent luxury vehicles.
They have huge cash now ,Fiat needs it. - LessmoreExplorer II

Well... I work there (30y) and can tell you the Fiat/Chrysler relationship is totally different from the Daimler/Chrysler relationship. 100% two way sharing now as opposed to 100% one way with Daimler. I remain encouraged by what I see daily....
I think the most accurate pulse taking of how a business is doing is by hearing from the guy who works there. Good for Chrysler and good for FIAT. - wilber1Explorer

I think so. Marchionne was born in Italy but he grew up, was educated and worked in Canada till his company was taken over by an Italian concern in 1994. He has very strong roots in North America and was probably very happy when he got the opportunity to become involved with an iconic manufacturer like Chrysler. - sch911ExplorerWell... The Germans tend to have a good track record in mucking up US ran companies. Same happened with Solar World around here. Now Freightliner isn't what it used to be either due to Daimler. I just have a lot of resentment with Daimler because of taking such an innovative company at the time and leaving it to rot while dumping its cash into its Benz line. I'm sure Chrylser would be in a much better position today if it didn't merge with Daimler Benz. Even if Fiat is strapped for cash, the UAW is pretty wise to know the worth of its stock.
- NJRVerExplorerHopefully Fiat won't do what Mercedes did to Chrysler when they bought them back around 2000. Chrysler at the time was the most profitable auto maker in the US (not sales, but profits per vehicle).Mercedes then proceeded to suck every last dime out of the company and then basically kicked them to the curb.

Not too impressed once you know the real reason! "Fiat also needs Chrysler's cash to help revive its lineup in Europe and other overseas markets."
BTW... GM recently purchased the remaining stocks from the U.S. Government for a song, so they can shed the "Government Motors" description that has plagued them.
Following the Daimler-Chrysler model, merger driven by Chrysler's excessive cash reserve and Daimler's need for cash. - hone_eagleExplorer
