Flush King or Hydroflush?

Trying to decide which one to buy??
  • Personally, I think the Flush King is the better choice. I have the Camco Dual Flush which is similar in that it includes a blade valve.

The Hydroflush will help some, but IMO it wont blow enough water back up into the tank to amount to much. The Dual Flush can act like the Hydroflush if you dont close the valve, but closing the valve and allowing the tank to back fill, THEN dumping removes SO MUCH more. You really need the extra blade valve to back fill and dump to to move more "stuff" out.

If you don't believe me check this out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfTd0Slt_cU
  • I should mention that video mentions the systems such as Flush King (Dual Flush) are not much more effective than dumping extra water down the toilet.

This is somewhat true, however, not having to carry a hose inside or holding the toilet flush valve down for 20+ minutes to fill the tank are well worth the small investment.
  • After watching the videos of both , I think your correct with the Flush King getting the nod.
    Thanks for the advice:)
  • When I was equipping my new TT, before I saw James - The Fit RV guy and his YouTube videos, I bought the Flush King and had the Tornado tank flush installed.

With my plumbing configuration, the Flush King didn't fit. So, I have a brand new one, still in the box.

I hooked up a "Quick Connect" hose fitting on the Tornado and find that it keeps my black tank in great condition.

James, the Fit RV guy, has several other interesting YouTube videos on TP, etc. I kiddingly refer to him as Dr. Poop.

Couldn't you make a or buy a short slinky to make it work?

Neither. Unless your plumbing is a straight shot to the tank, most of these products aren't very effective at cleaning the tank. At best you end up slowly backfilling the tank. You could just refill the tank and have another go at it. Getting in there with a tank wand would be best since you're scrubbing everything with water pressure.

One method I found effective for getting the most out of the black tank the first shot is to: open the black valve first, then the gray valve until the hose is filled, then shut the gray. The large column of water headed towards the dump station ends up placing a siphoning effect on the black tank which helps suck everything out. After the black is done, dump the gray as normal.

Correct. We bought a Hydro Flush for a previous TT and it worked reasonably well. Doesn't help whatsoever for our current TT and our built-in flusher is kinda okay but doesn't hit the walls of the tank and the sensors don't get cleaned off. There's lots of tank shapes/sizes and some outlet pipes exit the bottom of the tank, some the end and some the side plus there can be bends in the outlet pipe. If you have an enclosed underbelly you can't tell what you've got.

Below are some example tank configurations. Note that the sensors are on the same tank wall as the outlet pipe, or next to it, which means that no amount of backflushing will clean the sensors. If you happened to have a tank like in the 3rd photo, backflushing will accomplish almost nothing.

The Hydro Flush still helps though because you can see the contents flowing out and you can tell when the water is clear enough and has stopped flowing and can close the tank valve. It's almost mesmerizing watching it... :)

Bucky, the reason for the Flush King was to back flush to clean out the black tank. This based upon comments here on RVNet. However, after watching James - The Fit RV Guy, he convinced me that it was a false premise that it would keep the blank tank and sensors cleaner. Good advertising and sales hype, but it didn't seem to be as effective as thought.

As is, too many jogs to make the Flush King work. Adding a short slinky would just add jogs. I don't think I miss it. One less thing to have to hook up.

My bad... I was thinking of a Macerator...

I found nothing works as good as the good ole wand down the toilet
  • I agree with the wand down the toilet. We have used them all and nothing works as well, including the built in tank rinser.

To answer the original question, the FlushKing works much better than the Hydroflush because you can block off the flow to the sewer with the FlushKing but cannot with the other. This allows you to completely fill the tank back up if you wish. With the Hydroflush, as soon as the water buildup in the tank reaches a certain level, and that isn't much, then it stops flowing into the tank and just goes down the drain.

The FlushKing is also useful now and then for breaking up a blockage at the drain fitting on the tank as it will supply pressure to the blockage whereas the Hydroflush will not. The FlushKing also works just as well with turns in the drainage piping and does not depend on a clear shot up into the tank to work.

Therefor, if you are intent on purchasing one or the other I would go with the FlushKing. :)
