I would suggest you do some reading on the Powerstroke diesel forums. Yesterday I pulled up next to a F-550 garbage roll off container truck at a traffic light. I didn't pay much attention to the truck at first and judging by the noise it was making I assumed it was a 6.0L diesel. The light turned out to be especially long so I glanced over and was shocked to see it was a newer F-550 with a 6.7L diesel. When he took off the noise decreased but was definitely still there. It sounded like severe top end noise like lifters, etc.
I Googled the issue later and found out it is a very common issue that Ford considers normal. Buyer beware and this is coming from one that owned 3 Fords over the last 20 years including a 7.3L and 6.0L diesel.
iMO there are much better diesel options out there.
Wow! You must be an amazing mechanic. You identified an issue on a truck that you don't own based on noise you heard at a stop light. Let 6.7 PS owners answer the OP's question since we actually have everyday experience. BTW, I've owned both and I'm actually having less issues with my PS than I did with my Cummins.
LOL, you guys crack me up. I have a considerable amount of diesel engine experience both personally and professionally. I was one of the lucky ones who got to experience a Ford 6.0L diesel and let me tell you that one learns a lot about trying to prevent disasters and then dealing with repairs as they come up. Hence why you see the truck in my signature.
If you had heard the 6.7L Ford I spoke of in my original post and have ANY reasonable experience with diesel engines, you would have known there was something SERIOUSLY wrong with the truck. And it is not something that is going to go away. The 6.7L Ford is MUCH better than the 6.0L and 6.4L engines but it still has some flaws (some very serious) that the OP should know about.
I'm truly happy to hear that you're happy with your Ford; but given that it's a 2015 I would suggest that you give it some more time and mileage to state that it is a great truck.
I think the OP would be better off keeping the GM 8.1L quite honestly.
Care to post the miles on your truck for some credibility for the OP :W
And speaking of what I saw or should I say I heard in Victoria yesterday when a 14-15 ram cummins pulled up next to us was the knocking sound that sounded like the engine was about to throw a rod. Most likely a bad injector and if that driver continues to drive that truck like that his engine will soon be delivered to the rebuild factory in that black box.
Also a couple of months ago another ram 14-15 ram cummins pulls up next to me... This time it wasn't what I heard but what I saw... major white smoke coming from under the truck around the cab area.
The dealer where my cousin works as a diesel tech sells both Ford and Chrysler/ram products. The Ford shop has 2 diesel techs to the rams 3 diesel techs. Must be for a reason.- BedlamModeratorI was a previous Ford owner and almost bought another. What swayed me to another brand was the price, the amount of detuning in the chassis cabs and questions about Bosch's CP4 series pumps. My current choice also had negatives that Ford did not, but this purchase balanced the pros and and cons differently than the last time I was in the market.
I suggest you try all three and honestly write down what you do and do not like about each one. I feel you can not make a bad choice, but there will be one that is the best choice for you this time. Next time you shop with an open mind, you may pick the same brand or something else. Not only do your expectations change, but the manufacturer's ability to deliver what you want may also change. - blofgrenExplorer

Figured there would be a couple of negative comments from owners of other brands....
Frankly, it comes down to personal preferences and dealer support. In most cases, any one of the Ford, GM, Ram diesels are great trucks with more pulling power than most of us need. - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorer

What about a whole bunch of negative comments from people with the same brand? :B
Once again, you're pretty pathetic
Seems a similar bunch of posts on the Duramax forum, what gives?

Oh yeah, the :B
Similar posts? Really?
Some me on any Dmax forum where there is 36 pages of the same engine problem and I will believe you. And this is just one thread on one forum. Not counting the turbo problems or the HPFP problems or the radiator problems or..................... - GrodymanExplorerI don't think these diesels are the kind of motor you want for the long haul, like your 8.1. As long as they are under warranty, great. There may be a few who can afford to fix these things outside of warranty, but I'm not one of those people.
If you plan to keep your truck for 10 years like your last one, reconsider gas. Unfortunately I don't see the gas equivalent to your 8.1/Allison combo. Maybe the Ford 6.2/4.30, but considering my 6.2 with 3.73's I doubt it. Oh and the price.....Good luck.

I would have to agree here. Crazy to claim something like this just based off of sitting beside said truck at a traffic light.
Love Ford trucks till this day and believe you would be happy with one OP. See my sig for what I drive. But the reason is summed up in one word. Cummins. All three manufacturers make fine vehicles with each having their perks and flaws respectively. But once I drove the Cummins there was no going back for me. But that's just me and my opinion and what clicked for me. We all march to the beat of a different drum, just gotta find the beat you like!
Good luck! - RedRocket204Explorer

Oh yeah, the :B - kennethwoosterExplorerHad a 2011 6.7 that was flawless. Needed more capacity so traded for 2014 F350 DRW. I love the longer box. It also had the hitch prep installed, so went to b&W dealer and in about 30 min. had a new hitch installed. Its amazing how easy that truck runs down the road with the 5th behind it. First trip we made we went to Memphis Tenn. without 5th, and I was shocked how easy it was to park and turn on the city. You will love the truck.

Ricatic your phone is ringing. Didn't you own the brand and engine the OP is asking about? What are your thoughts?
