Just a bit of history for filling the AAM 11.5" axle that came out in the new redesigned 2003 Dodge trucks.
Dodge first says 11.5" Rear: 1/2" +/- 1/4" (Total of 3/4" below Fall hole) which my then new '03 2500 Dodge/Cummins came with. Some where around 3500 miles the AAM started whining so I pulled the plug and found oil 3/4" down from the fill hole. I did a 1-800 to AAM and according to them Dodge was using the wrong fill line info and they were advising Dodge truck division of AAM proper fill recommendations. I added most of another quart to the axle. Later Dodge corrected their screw up.
But it left me with a whiner.
Dodge says to pull heavy for 10k miles or so and report back. The whine was gone by 35k miles. The truck now has close to 340k miles on the same AAM axle with 75w-140 Redline rear lube change every 75k-80k miles.

Best axle lube ?? just like our new gen LDTs...there is no best.

A friend has been using Mopar’s gear lube in his 2003 2500HD Ram since its first 30k mile change. At 242k miles last time I asked, there’s really no reason to believe there’s anything better. My understanding is, Amsoil doesn’t make anything. They buy their base stock from oil making companies like Mobil Oil, and blend their recipes of additives, also outsourced. Since I’ve never been convinced there’s anything special about Amsoil, I prefer to buy OTC Mobil-1 at the local auto parts store. When I had my Rams, I filled to just under the fill hole. Too much is as bad as not enough.

Yep those were the days. Dad religiously change his 60 VW Bug oil at recommended intervals and replaced the gaskets and adjusted the valves as they always needed adjusting.

Changed to AMZ/OIL and then did his routine, don't remember if he extended the change I would guess he did. Gaskets did NOT needs to be replaced and valves did NOT need adjusting.

He was the first AMZ/OIL Dealer in WA.

15k on several Blackstone reports on my 15 RAM/Cummins told me I could run the oil longer once past warranty.

Not a hater at all. In fact my truck's gear boxes have Amsoil in them. Goes back to my early days as a mechanic for a bulk hauling fleet. They tested Standard Oil {Amoco} synthetic gear oils which proved out to increase their fleet fuel mileage. Synthetic engine oils didn't work as well back then. I have used synthetic engine oils at times but am still not convinced that they work as well in engines and don't believe in the hype from Amsoil or any one else about extended oil changes. A quality oil and regular changes works for me.

Shoot, I don't hate Amsoil, anymore than I hate Motul, Maxima, Redline, or any of the other products that are way overpriced. If they can get it then they obviously have an enviable marketing department. People many times base quality on price, but it's their money. As long as they don't expect me to do it.
