Generator on Tongue

I used bathroom scale on previous TT, tongue weighed about 650#. It was almost 700# at actual scale.

yeah, I'm looking on how to do that now. How accurate is the bathroom scale method. Ballpark, or don't bother?

since you don't know actual trailer weight or actual tongue weight, I'd first get both measured and see if your OK on tongue weight limits.

FWIW I've helped numerous folks adjust WD hitches and I've yet to find anyone, (myself included) who's "estimated" tongue weight was equal or more than actual tongue weight. I was the closest, estimated 1200lbs, actual 1300/wo water, 1450 with water. I've had others who's "estimate" was low by 25-35%. One estimate of "I'm positive it's less than 600lbs" turned out to be an actual 900lbs. I have a 2,000lb Sherline tongue weight scale that I use to determine trailer actual tongue weights.

I think the FORD, not the receiver but vehicle spec, is under 900# actually.

Anyway I don't know your FULLY LOADED TT weight, but once generator is on there (personally I'd check weights BEFORE I added it if TT GVWR is over 6000#) be sure to measure your rear axle weight!!!!!!!!!!!

In fact I've found if tongue weight is much over 15% of FULLY LOADED TT weight, the handling degrades quickily.

The extra weight should be an improvement in handling. If it is very large, I suppose it might be a trick to keep it out of the way when hitching up unless it is always secured in place after.

Mine goes in the tailgate corner of my truck bed. It is secured to the bed wall using the lockable steel rope. My truck also has a lockable folding hard plastic bed cover and of course the tail gate locks.

Makes for a nice OUT-OF-SIGHT secure spot for us when in travel mode or lock up mode. I just pull it out onto the tail gate when connected to the trailer shore power cable when allowed to run my generator at the camp sites. I leave the generator in the back of my truck all the time so now it is available to be used at home or where-ever we go.

My game plan was to keep the generator out-of-sight as much as possible and I have not had any thief problems using it over the past few years. It goes where I go. I would never leave my generator unattended at a camp site.

Better than putting it on the rear as in my book you cannot have too much tongue weight, but too little will take you to the scene of the accident.
