My thoughts exactly. - BedlamModeratorWhen you have the manpower to enforce a blockade of an outdoor site, you are sending out a political statement instead of following the intent of the rule.
- Jayco254ExplorerThe Arch and Old Courthouse in St. Louis are closed, locked up no admittance, but as I understand the grounds will still be open. Saw on the news this morning that campers in federal campgrounds have until 4:00 pm tomorrow to leave. I hope this don't last long, people that made arrangements ahead of time are going too have really messed up vacations. One of the local stations interviewed a couple that came from England to see the St. Louis Arch, they were very disappointed. I know people that work there that are very worried about their house payments, so it's not just vacationers, let's pray it ends soon.

We received an Email from the GC Association today. The main road through the park will be open but all parking will be blocked. No stopping for photos or sights. No interprative personnel on duty but the Rangers will be present to enforce the laws.
I wonder if this is happening at other sites? Rather than just shut down the parks, people are barred. I suppose one could say that there might be damage or vandalism, but the note above indicates that "Rangers will be present to enforce the laws". It looks like its best to avoid the Federal sites altogether. - D_E_BishopExplorerWe received an Email from the GC Association today. - sabconsultingExplorerThis is what I love about having an RV - if things change at the last moment then you have the flexibility. It can be governments, weather, strikes, natural disasters, you name it.
This year we completely changed our Scotland itinerary due to the weather - it would have been a disaster if we had booked a week in a cottage or pre-paid hotel, but we could just turn the other way instead.
In 2012 the company running the ferry to Spain went on strike cancelling our sailing. So we just took the short crossing to France and drove through France bypassing the strike.
One thing that makes a big difference is having some way to get onto the Internet while travelling to help re-plan.
Steve. - DesertboyExplorerThe parks are only part of the camping trip anyway. I have fun driving around cool and slow checking out places Ive never been. Ill pull over about anywhere and park, There is a many a cool place between Oklahoma and Northern California.

This will give the opportunity to explore the road less traveled. There are some wonderful state and county Cgs out there. Relax and enjoy the journey. - campn4walleyeExplorerThis will give the opportunity to explore the road less traveled. There are some wonderful state and county Cgs out there. Said so well.Government shut down killing our vacation!!!!
Hmmm, I have been full time RV'ing for 6 years now and have 'never' stayed in a federal/state CG. So them shutting them down certainly doesn't have any affect on my RV'ing!
P.S. ~There IS life out there offering camping besides gov parks. :W:W
