I was unaware that there were any 2014 "Dodge" trucks. What am I missing here?
To address, you are correct...they are now referred to as Ram trucks, and there aren't any "on the market" now, but you can now order them...you missed nothing, even the "Dodge" in parenthesis........I call it Dodge/Ram, I paid enough money for one that I should be able to call it whatever I want:B - NC_HaulerExplorer

Most know it's RAM, but some, like me still say Dodge/Ram...at 63 I'll ask for forgiveness.I didn't own my first Dodge TRUCK until 2010 and it was called a Dodge Ram, in 2012, it changed....sometimes it takes a little longer for others to "change" than others, Calling a Ram truck a Dodge/Ram shouldn't be frowned upon for at least 2 to 3 years:B
I still think Baltimore Colts:) - NC_HaulerExplorer

Jim,
If you read my post, you will see it was in the 90's. Both the Ford and GM had 15K gvwr rigs BEFORE the current crop of 45 series trucks. GM IMHO overall was the better rig with 19.5 tires vs 16 for the ford, 4wdisk brakes vs disk, rear drum to name a couple of things I did not personally like about the Ford. Reality is, I still see both trucks still on the road working today!

Didn't doubt you Marty, just didn't know that, I learned something and thank you for that. When I asked when, was just wondering "year". I too see the older GMs and Ford dually's (90's) towing/hauling more than I would have thought they could, now I understand a little better.:) - GreentowExplorerIt's NOT Dodge anymore, it's "RAM", sold at a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/RAM dealership. I get the impression these 'standards' have been deliberately left soft for the OEM's. To make the pickups do what they claim to do, would require a substantial redesign of the vehicles.
There WAS a substantial design change on the 2013 3500 1 ton SRW and 1 ton DRW trucks, substantial.....
I am sure the design change, or appears to be making a 3500 a defacto 4500! At least the gvwr is in the DOT class 4 range, and really is not even in the class 3/1 ton range any more. Not that this is a bad thing mind you! As some advertising says, "this is NOT your daddy's 1 ton/35 series truck any more" reality is, it is more like the GM 3500HD or the old Ford Super Duty out of the 90's, when they had 15K gvwr's, altho they did not have the power of todays motors, nor the 6+ sp trans missions, so they did not have the gcwr per say of the older rigs.
Really, this is a wolf in sheeps clothing, just as the GM 1500HD has been a 2500 in halfton badge door stickers! Even my 05 dually is different than the fist GM 3500 I bought in 89 with a 10K gvwr!

On the Mobile Suites Forum I have mentioned the newer big 3 Duallys will do what the F450 used to do and some more. - blt2skiModeratorJim,

GM 3500HD had a 15,000# GVWR?? When I owned an 05 and an 07.5 Chevy 3500HD Dually's, never saw that GVWR and I came within a hair of pulling the trigger on a 2013 Chevy 3500HD dually and it's GVWR was 13,025#, same as the 14', if I'm not mistaken. BUT, I never owned a GMC 3500 Dually in the 90's so don't really know about them.. What year did the GMC 3500HD have a 15,000# GVWR?
I was comparing the 2012 Ram 3500HD with the 2013 Ram 3500HD, both dually's,
12' had GVWR of 12,300#..............13' has 14,000# GVWR
12, with 4:10 had GCWR of somewhere around 25,000#
13 with 4:10 /Aisin, has a GCWR of 37,500#..... - blt2skiModerator

Is that the 3500? They are packing some big power in a small space, but there are other factors like transmission, ride comfort, fuel capacity and brakes.
Actually to get that number you have to spend $2600 for the medium duty Aisin transmission. The MY 14 3500 you can even order air bags on the rear with the really light leaf spring for non towing ride comfort.
That is the one we are going to get a group buy on this fall!
Maybe even NC!
Nah, I'm done....this truck will handle MORE than I'd ever hope to tow with it....Going to set my hitch up to my 5er to check height next week, hoping to tow soon so I can see/feel the difference between the 12 and the 13'...
you can Rick are going to have to get a "group rate" with others on the 14'...I'm in "near retirement" mode now :B
