My 7.3 has all the symptoms that this product says it will help. If it will do the job so I don't have to spend lots more on replacing injectors, that sounds better to me. Also the fact that this product is the only one listed in the article in Trailer Life tells me something. Since no one has actually said anything bad about it, I am going to go ahead and get some. I will try to remember to let you guys know how effective it really is. Thanks for the answers and btw I don't automatically consider all products to be snake oil. Don
Have you tried running a 5W40 oil?- chrisgabeExplorerI can shed some light. And total disclosure- I own Hot Shots Secret. I am not hawking product but only answering questions. I also have been an avid camper for 26 years and have camped in pop ups, pull behinds, Class c, Class A and finally a diesel pusher. I have six kids and we love camping.
There are 2 different Hot Shot's Secret products and I think you might be confusing them. One is for the engine oil and one is for the fuel. They are not snake oil even though we get a lot of hecklers. We developed the first one for Navistar for the Ford 6.0. Its a long story but the take home is that it cleans out the stiction build up in the injectors and turbo. The Diesel Extreme was developed to fix the problem with IDID's , Internal Diesel Injector Deposits which appear to be caused from different additives added to the fuel then heated by the engine and sent back via the return line. It seems the additives are not compatible and causing a sticky film on the inside of the injector. From there we added a detergent, stabilizer(so the diesel fuel doesn't go bad when it sits) and a lot of cetane boost which is the Ethylhexylnitrate your talking about. The other chemicals are generic names for hundreds of other chemicals. On the MSDS you are really just listing the general category. So Napthalene doesn't need to be mothballs but is really just a general category. The product was made to be just a twice a year clean up that is 10 times stronger than anything else. Our target was for people having problems, problem specific solutions. We are content to let Lucas and STP make general purpose additives. We find a problem and fix it.
Hopefully that fills in some of the blanks. Again I am not hawking product but trying to ad knowledge to the discussion which is what forums are all about. And for the moderator I have already sent an email to the person in charge of our budget to look at advertising on the forum to support the cause.
Thanks,
Chris - DirtyOilExplorer
As a chemist let me point out that Napthalene is a white solid not a solvent
yes in some of its uses, but as for the use we're discussing, hydrogenated Naphthalenes... Tetrahydronaphthalene and Decahydronaphthalene are used as "low-volatility" Solvents.
molten naphthalene provides an excellent solubilizing medium for poorly soluble aromatic compounds... it is more efficient than other high-boiling solvents.
Napahthalene has several uses of course as you states "mothballs" or fumigant... chemical reaction solvent... wetting agent/surfactant... chemical intermediate... - UncleDonaldExplorerMy 7.3 has all the symptoms that this product says it will help. - agesilausExplorer IIIAs a chemist let me point out that Napthalene is a white solid not a solvent. It's one of two chemicals that are used to make moth balls. Paradichlorbenzene being the other. The Ethylhexylnitrate seems to be the main active ingredient along with the petroleum distillate (mineral spirits or kerosine).

do a google search for hot shot's secret msds and see what you find. Maybe you will find one that has some information. - 45RicochetExplorerThat blue one sounds interesting, -65 pour point.

All snake oils come with a money back guaranty. The salesmen know most people will not ask for their money back once they use a product as it is to much bother - ACZLExplorerStuff works! Highly recommend it. How many snake oils come with a money back guarantee?
