- junmy3ExplorerWe travel whatever we need to travel, but do our best to hold it to 300 a day. On our trip this past summer I believe we did have one 500 mile day. Before retirement 500-600 was very common.
- Camper_GExplorerI can go straight through from my house to myrtle Beach, about 550 miles and 9.5 to 10hrs, but when i get there I'm tired. That's about as much as i like to do in one day
- LarryJMExplorer IIBetween 200 and 300, but try to be on the lower end of that range. Again, being retired we're in no hurry and like to arrive and be sit up NLT 2PM so we can eat a late lunch and relax. We try and leave between 8 and 9 AM in the morning.
I stay away from driving at night at all costs, vision isn't what it was 20 or 30 years ago and I just don't want to be messing with anything at night by flashlight.
Larry - Big1Explorer IIAll this is good to hear, since my wife and I are newly camper I will have to learn what and what not to do.

We usually leave about 10. We average 300 miles per day, 6 hours. That usually gets us to the next site between 3 and 4. Leisurely set up in time for cocktail hour. We are retired so we can be easy going.
We are going on 30 days right now. Left NC to Mount Rushmore, then to Yellowstone, then the Oregon coast, then the Redwoods around Crescent City, then Crater Lake, then the Nevada desert near Denio. Right now we are sitting in Elko for a couple of days to do some fossil hunting. Looking to be back home in a couple of weeks.
There are some real tasty Basque Restaurants in Elko. Best omelet I've ever had. Basque Chorizo, fresh Japelenos, onions and cheddar cheese.- GrandpaKipExplorer IIWe usually leave about 10. My DW has spinal cord injury and so our shortest day has been about an hour and she said enough but usually about 5 hours is the limit.
We never have a set destination in mind when we start the day. We find what we need when we need it - rbpruExplorer IIWe average 250 to 300 miles a day. We leave about 9 and like be in camp by 5. So with potty breaks, food breaks, stops etc. We are moving on the road 5 or 6 hours a day.
Coming home we can push 600 mile because we do not have to worry about a campsite.
You will find 200 to 300 miles a good average and 60 mph will get you about 10 mpg.
That said, if your time is limited you may have to push harder.
We rented a trailer before we bought one. We spent a week in the Ozarks. Renting tells you a lot about the purchase you are about to make.
Good luck. - TrailerTravele1ExplorerA wise more experienced trailer traveler once told us ... 200 miles, 2 nights and camped by 2 PM.
But that doesn't always work when traveling across country, even for retired folk like us. We left Illinois early September - the first two days were 500 miles each to get to SD, then 280 to get to ND, then 637 to Whitefish MT. 380 yesterday from Whitefish (Glacier Nat'l Park) to Yellowstone Nat'l Park.
Tomorrow will be 133 from Yellowstone to Grand Teton Nat'l Park for 2 nights. Then a whopping 537 to Denver to visit our son for several days. And probably a couple more 500 mile days from Denver back to Illinois. Ugh.
But despite being retired, we'd rather drive a bit longer to spend more days where we're going. And this trip is over a month long... :) You make your own choices, but remember if it's not FUN, do it differently! - Passin_ThruExplorerDepends 350 some days, 900 from Va to FL, picked my wife up at MCO and drove 50 more but I did drive Class 8 trucks. When going to OK from Va to visit my Grandkids, my wife flies, I do 700 1st day and 600 second. I drive 67 MPH and keep the doors shut.
