How hard is it to put in a skylight?

In our new TT the fan is right above the shower. This weekend when I used it, it darned near sucked the shower curtain up while I was taking a shower. So, it isn't likely I will be able to take a shower with the fan on. I'm thinking of putting a skylight there and putting the fan over a few feet. Would this be difficult?

  • You know what I don't understand? Why in the world would you put the fan directly in the shower ceiling? Why not put it in the bathroom area instead? My old camper had the skylight in the shower and the fantastic vent in over the commode, just makes more sense to me.
  • Cutting into that roof would be my LAST option. You never know what is up there behind the roof and ceiling panels. As stated, switch to a Fantastic fan with multi speed settings, and forget that roof opening idea.
  • I installed one of these timers so I don't have to deal with the draft while I'm in the shower. It's great of the other little chores in there too and even comes in handy if we hang bathing suits to dry.
Using one of these would be a lot less work than installing another vent.

It also comes in white and a 30 minute version.

Mine is installed next to the vent

I think I will have to agree with this Bumpy. In searching the net I found an idea with putting a hook on the wall and attaching a string to the curtain to hold it out? I'm also thinking of putting in a fantastic vent fan. The fan we have is horrible and LOUD. It is brand new and unless the dealer does the work our warranty for leaks is void.
We bought one of the expandable shower rods, but it wouldn't fit in our situation so I had to return it.

  • Shouldn't be too difficult as long a you don't cut into any roof trusses, air conditioning vent ducts, or wiring. Removing the fan first should allow you to take a look inside the roof cavity for any obstructions. Once you've found a suitable place I would start by cutting/removing the inner ceiling panel first. Then drill a small hole in each corner up through the roof. On the roof, cut the membrane in an "X" pattern and fold it back. Cut out the roof panel, fold the membrane back inside and install the skylight/ fan and seal.
  • How about running some waterproof Velcro around the base of the shower and attaching it so it won't get sucked up? It would be the simplest solution to start with besides cutting a hole in your roof or buying an expensive fan.

a much better idea IMHO. I assume the OP has the little whirr and buzz and I never saw one of those that had very much effect on anything, other than the noise. if the original is a fantastic fan, run it on low.

  • Of course it all depends on how handy you are.
Cutting a largish opening into an RV roof is never "easy."
Do it wrong and you will cause yourself a lot of grief.

Also your rigs appears to be new...2013. You may give the dealer/manufacturer reasons to give you problems if any warranty issues pop up.
