Feb 16, 2015OP - In your case, you simply need a bigger truck or a smaller trailer. I'm pretty sure that's the dry hitch weight for that trailer. You're 300 lbs over GVWR before you even load the trailer. Loading a conservative 1,000 lbs and you're now over by 400 or more. I would not bother wasting the money to try an make the truck more capable. If you're really in love with this trailer then get something more capable, new or used.
Manufacturers intend for the numbers on a vehicle to be a strict limit. Some feel that they know their equipment better and how far to push it. Some vehicles are completely capable of exceeding their stickers, but these are normally in the 3/4 and 1-ton range. 1500s just aren't built the same way and are a lot less forgiving.
