- jefe_4x4ExplorerFor me there is no 'one' setting for the tie downs. As an XTC-er, i adjust the tightness to snug (little on no play) for the highway. As I go down the food chain of road surfaces, I'll keep loosening the rear ones to ..
(Jeanie and I are in Patrick's Point State Park at the moment and she just handed me one of her killer, "Jean's Tequilla Sunset" in honor of Cinco de Mayo. No matter what time of day you consume said beverage, the sun goes down.)
allow the rear of the camper to lift off the bed slightly and NOT adhere to the frame's twisting. If you never get off road, or get the frame twisted up, just leave them in their current position.
jefe - HadEnoughExplorerThere were two holes on the frame extension at the truck.
He had one Fastgun in the wrong hole.
Moved it to the same hole as the other side and it "feels right" now.
Thanks! - jmckelvyExplorerLook through the hole for the lock on the Fastgun. As you close the latch you should start to feel tension when the latch/handle section is about half way blocking the hole as viewed from the side. Adjust the screw leg on the Fastgun until you get the right length.

They are sloppy and can be jiggled.
That seems wrong to me....
Visit Torklift's website and watch the video that describes the proper adjustment of the FastGuns. - HadEnoughExplorerThey are Torklift FastGun Spring loaded Turnbuckles.

My tie downs aren't what I'd consider tight. There is play in the one by the drivers side forward, These are TC tie downs that attach to the bars sticking out from the frame.
How tight should those be?
Are they turn buckles, Torklift Fastguns, or?HadEnough wrote:
Also, is there any preventative maintenance one should do to their TC?
Roof needs checked and resealed where necessary. I look at my roof several times a year. That's the only maintenance I regularly do.
Some of the trim that snaps in to the rails along the roof line and back wall is failing. It's cheap plastic trim that cracks due to being sun-baked. I'm doing that this year.
