Interior wall hole repair ideas

Kids were roughhousing in our 2008 Jayco 29BHS and kicked the wall in the back corner of the lower bunk. The damage consists of the hole you see in the photos and what feels like a piece of 1/4 inch plywood backing that broke off. Is there some way to patch this short of removing the entire wall panel? I am trying to be reasonably pleasing (visually) with the repair. Thanks for any ideas.

Andre

PS The kids were appropriately punished with a resurrection of 1960's style corporal punishment. They're 11 years old, so they totally weren't expecting that. Timeout seemed too mild... :D

  • Most cities have a hardware store that has huge selection of 1/4 inch luan - you should be able to find something that is close match. It's also easy to paint or apply wallpaper to luan so you can blend everything together.

X-2 on this suggestion and payment

You beat your own kids? Oh, the horrors! The precious snowflakes will be ruined for life!

Actually, good for you. Parents need to do more of that!
  • Not sure "matching it will go all that well.
Perhaps look to some skinny stick on diamond plate, chrome or black...
Or something else that covers the hole and makes it look rugged and strong :)

Thank god your boys were having fun in the camper not hating the experience.

  • I would first check with your dealer...who can contact Jayco and see if they can get you some matching wall panel. That trim comes off pretty easy and you could likely install a sheet with some backing as needed over the entire area. Failing that you could stain/varathane a 1/4" piece of oak plywood and glue it over the area of the damage and maybe past it by a foot or two in any direction you can. Than get one of those fabric bunk pouches that snap on in many bunkhouse areas so the kids can stash books, electronics etc. The wood overlay will be permanent but at least practical if its got the pockets attached. PM me if you want pics of an install I did in my bunkhouse years ago.

  • Check out 'textured' wall panels at Home Depot/Lowes

    1/4" paneling with designs.

Might find something close or with a 'decor' that is not too contrasting

Install it full length of damaged wall like an over lay ---from floor to just above smashed area.
Little wallboard adhesive, some decorative screws with trim pieces on edge of paneling

    Kinda like 'wainscoting'

Enhance the interior and hide the damage
