Is Ram Ditching Aisin Tranmissions

RAM/Cummins will at some point get more gears because marketing will call for them more than an actual need.

It's not pulling hills that the extra gears help, it's cruising unloaded on the freeway where the extra gears result in lower RPM's.

Ford did what it did because it simply had much more power and TQ.

IMO it did a lot for the Ford. More OD means trucks can have lower gearing for pulling and higher gearing overall for empty running. Fords OD is arguabley a tripple OD and gets the RPM crazy low when empty. I have 6 gears and it would be awesome to have a couple more gears for empty freeway travel. It has the torque but not the gears. I can easily see how beneficial it would be to have even one more gear.

Multi speeds did not do anything for the Ford n GM.

More reasons to keep my truck.

^ZF already has one and it's not the 8HP variants in the rest of the Chrysler line up.
Correct, the 8hp is tapped out for duty behind 1000ft lbs.
Ram has already been testing it. Called the Powerline iirc.
It's "true medium duty" as someone on here used to profess all the time.

Our 07 will be old enough to drive itself by the time it comes out!
That's a long time for Ram to take to step up their tra mission game....
