No matter what type of jack you get, please make sure you carry one of these as well. No excuse not to at about $5 each.

And, get the he-- off the shoulder. Last time I had a blowout, I drove slowly on the shoulder for about a 1/2 mile to get to the exit. The tire was ruined anyway. I'd even use the median turn-around for emergency vehicles to work on my vehicle/trailer. - TeamfourExplorerNo matter what type of jack you get, please make sure you carry one of these as well. I wouldn't leave any road service jack my trailer unless I was completely disabled. They don't have a clue about where and how to place a jack.
Are you sure that none of them know how to jack up a trailer? Of course, you can still watch and make sure they do it your way if you like.
In PA we are to have our trailers inspected annually. I had to stop the last state certified inspector from jacking my axle near the center. Pulled the trailer out of there never to return. Now remember that was a trained mechanic in a garage, do you think that the low wage road service guy will be any better on the side of the road?
I don't know about all of them but the two times I've used the service in the last 10 years I didn't have any problems at all. Your mileage may vary. Just seems like a pretty broad brush to say all road side services don't know what they're doing based on a single isolated incident with a vehicle inspector. But that's just me.
X1, The validity of a gerenalization about competency is spurious if only based on one incident. I have used GS Emergency Road Side Service for over 20 years could not make that kind of a negative generalization as of today. I am guessing but I probably average using the service 2 times a year or apprx. 40 times in the last 20 years. All my Emer. Road Side incidents were satisfactorly resolved. There have been a few times I have had to tell the service agent that they didn't understand my situation or what services I needed and that I needed to talk to their supervisor. Once I sent an email to Mr. Marcus and he personally called me, resolved the issue and offered me a $25 fuel card as a gesture of customer service. - tex_wardfanExplorer

You really do need a torque wrench. The 4-way is useful only if someone made the nuts way too tight. Perhaps you won't have any problems finding well qualified people to work on your trailer. I never had such luck.
Thanks Lynnmor. I have one somewhere in my toolbox. Just need to find it. - LynnmorExplorerYou really do need a torque wrench. The 4-way is useful only if someone made the nuts way too tight. - tex_wardfanExplorerThanks guys. I just got back from a trip to Academy and Walmart. I got the locks for my coupler and hitch at Academy and I got a rechargeable drill with two battery packs, a 1.5 ton Scissors jack, a 4 way lug wrench and a deal that looks like tennis balls on magnetic based rods for lining up the ball with the coupler. it says they extend 42 inches so I hope that is enough to get them above my tailgate. Your suppose to put one on the hitch and one on the coupler and back up till the balls almost touch. That is suppose to put the ball right under the coupler. I shall see.

I see a lot of people rely on a road service to change a flat tire. In other threads, people complain about poor road service experiences. Me, I still do my own tire changing. I don't like depending on or waiting for someone else to do what I am still physically able to do.
Of course, I may be a dying bread. I still use a lug wrench. ;)
I'm with you! I'm not waiting with 4 kids on the side of the road any longer than I absolutely need to. I have Good Sam roadside service just in case, but I'm not using it if I can get us back on the road safely. - hohenwald48Explorer
