Hi all,We just traded our '06 Jayco Eagle for a fifth wheel. All was well, got a great trade in value, and then we got the call. The roof was rotten all the way around. This was our first camper so I take some of the blame, but I've now read that a certain range of Jayco's had roof issues. I could see no rips, tears, or discolorations on the inside. Yet the roof was so soft in spots you could not walk on top. We took a pretty good hit on the trade, but I learned an expensive lesson. Get up there and crawl around and check that goop around every seam. Or hired someone to do it for you.

I'm not sure I understand- do you mean that the rotten roof is on the rig you traded in, and that you just now took a big hit on the value they'd originally promised? As in, "we were going to give you "x", but now you're only getting "y"?If so, forgive my cynicism, but:I hope you went down and made them show you the damage they say they've "just found". Not that they'd have any motive/reason for exxagerating the damage or anything...

The letters "RV" loosely translates to "really loses value if you don't maintain it". I should think however that if the trade in was already transferred to the dealer then their isn't a damn thing the dealer can do about it..it now belongs to him!

I was actually wondering the same thing. If the ink was dry on the contract after it was discovered - it was a done deal. They are supposed to be the professionals (and should have ck'd it thoroughly prior to sealing the deal). If not.. it was or should have been THEIR HEADACHE.

Been there done that. Paid $4000 to have the roof replaced. No obvious damage to the rubber membrane. Insurance won't cover it because to obvious cause found. My repair guy thought it was a manufacture defect but Jayco wouldn't cover it because it was out of warranty. Extended warranty excludes roofs. They even had another similar Jayco come in with the exact same problem. What a bummer you had to "find" it when you were trading it in. Congrats on the new trailer. Enjoy it!!!! Pat

I sure hope the O.P. is paying attention here...he sounds like an honest man trying to warn us of the hazards of "neglecting" one's roof. But what if he's just getting getting the after-the-deal Royal Runaround from the folks that he inked a contract on a new rig with?

A lot of Jayco's used TPO roof with a felt back that would wick water and rot out the roof. I'm not sure there is a lot you can do to prevent this.

In May we traded in our 2007 Jayco Eagle 322FKS sight unseen, by the dealer. They gave us a trade in price and that was that. There maybe some fine print in the contract that allows renegotiating if there is "major" damage to the trailer upon final inspection????

And yes we inspected our roof frequently for cracks - cuts etc....That's the weak point- if the roof leaks you're looking at major repair work should the trailer rot- delaminate etc...

At least the OP was honest and faced up to the situation.
