Try getting the truth.
Who do they ask? I have NEVER been asked to do a survey by JD Powers...so do they cover every owner in the USA or just "pick and choose"....hey, I agree with most of their picks...unlike Consumers report...but at almost 64 yrs of age and owning ALL the new cars that I have, one would think at sometime, I would have been asked by someone other than the manufacturer of my vehicle...
Does it matter?
If they take a random survey odds are the same that they will find a happy owner, a disgruntled owner, and everyone in between regardless of what the item being reviewed is.
I got three surveys when I bought my last new truck and didn't return a single one. I have never received any surveys for my washer and dryer, my John Deere riding mower, my refrigerator, my weed eater, my chain saw......
If you really want to know how they survey you could ask them in an e-mail. They have a contact us link on their website. - NC_HaulerExplorer

I will not be in the market for one though...at least not for awhile. My 2006 only has 73000 miles on it and looks almost new. I do have to make a repair though...The aftermarket bug deflector has broken during this record cold and snow January here in SE Michigan...While the back seat area is smaller than I remember from my Blue KoolAid days, the front is where we ride and it is as comfortable as the Ford.
The truck starts great, even at -10F and not plugging in the block heater. I am very pleased with this truck and expect it will be around for a few years at least...

yeah ric, I didn't get that one either....yeah, I know you were a ford owner, but think we know, as Paul Harvey would have said, "Here's the rest of the story".....I see a Chevy in your sig:B
...yes...I was the consummate Blue KoolAid Distributor...I ignored the sage advice of the wiser folks here when they said that there were not enough miles on the fleet to support the now proven to be overly optimistic numbers and praises that were lauded on the truck...live and learn...
...and I learned...the veterans here have had to notice the huge scaling back of the number of my posts and the veracity of my position statements...
Yes...once in a while I answer a question or two regarding my current truck...and yes...it is a Gold Standard 2006 LBZ DuraMax...

Ric, will you take a peek at the 2015 GM HDs when they arrive or are you planning to keep the 06 a while longer?
Just curious, hijack over. - MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerGood job GM !! I think the new trucks are great looking !! and am excited for their new line in HDs , half ton and new midsize canyon and Colorado to be in full swing !! Have a feeling the truck numbers will continue to climb. They just need to price just right to entice the on the fence buyer. GM has loyalist that count on the low cost of ownership their trucks offer. I think ford and ram are nice trucks, I just like the GM trucks for how they have treated me all these years. My trucks have very high miles and keep on performing for me !!

Good point....I've owned Jeeps since 1984, Wranglers, Grand Cherokee Limiteds, Liberty, Patriot and now a Compass...TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, problem ridden cars and in the 30 years I've owned all of them, I never had the FIRST problem, nothing, only in shop to get an oil change or tire rotation, and only then if it was free......
same with Ram...three of them, yeah, only 3 years, not an issue, none....but I'll give it time.
....but I also owned an 05 Chevy 3500 Dually with the LLY, (overheating) and in all the mountain towing I done, I only saw temp gage go up one time, which STILL didn't cause any lights or alarms to go off and that was that...had it for 2.5 years and other than seeing temp. gage go up the one time...that was it.
yeah, sometimes these charts nothing more than propaganda or just a stupid joke.
For what one would pay of a Mercedes or Lexus, I would CERTAINLY HOPE that their reputation is WAYYYYYY up there....it has been for years, and years and years and, well, you get the drift.
The girl who works for my wife has a Lexus and hates it, She can't work the Nav system and she has a weird parasitic power drain it the car sits for more than 24 hours it won't start. They've replaced the alternator twice and the battery three times. She says as soon as the warranty is over that car is gone. - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorerI sure would like to know what the problems were and how serious they were.
The 5 series BMW has a huge problem with the cup holders breaking off. They WILL break, not if but when. They are JUNK!
Now if this was the only problem BMW had with this car I think all would agree that this is a minor problem. But since almost all BMW 5 series succumbs to this problem and people would be taking it back to their dealer all the time to fix it, it would make this car look very bad.
Now lets say that 20% of all TDI's blow their CP4 pumps. At 12 to 15 grand per pop, this would be a HUGE problem. But because only 20% would blow, it would show on stats that the TDI would be a way better car.
Same thing with my truck that has an oil cooler hose that weeps and another brand truck engine that is dropping valves. BIG difference between the two problems!! - LessmoreExplorer IILooking at those JD Power ratings I find myself nodding in agreement. We bought a Buick Allure (Lacrosse in the states) sedan in 2007. Touch wood....but it has been great...quality and reliability wise.
I notice that Toyota (we have an '07 of those too) is down the ratings some from Buick.
And...although the Buick and the Toyota are the same age...the Buick has twice as many miles on it. We drive the big Buick more.
Based on our experience, I would agree that JD Power has it right on both these vehicles.
