Lance 830 rear tent lock adjustment

The rear tent on my Lance 830 has one upper corner that doesn't quite close tightly to the rubber seal. Although rain doesn't come in dust does if on a dirt road and gets things a little dirty. It looks to me like there is no kind of adjustment on the locking arms that keep the fold down tent bed closed. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it a little tighter to the seal?

  • Capt Eddie,

Thanks for the heads up on the possible frame issue. I will look into that as well. And thanks for the explanation on how to tweak the rubber bumpers. Sounds like a good way to handle that.
  • Be careful in how the tent goes in. My entire main frame has separated from the hinged side. When I close the tent it try's to stay up about 3/8 inch and not close. I would check to make sure the top of the frame is within the hole. If not, there is the gap that is letting in the dirt. I would have tried the same thing that you are thinking of if I had not noticed the gap at the bottom of the frame. And for the life of me I can not figure out how to reattach the flat tent back to the hinge. I suspect that there is nothing but foam in between the front and the back of the tent body. The world can be perfect for you not. Unscrew the rubber bumper. Get some flat washers and a screw 1/2 inch longer then the one you took out, Put the washers under the bumper and retighten screw. Fixed. But check the hinges also.
  • I am quite careful to make sure all the tent material is not catching on anything so that is not the issue. After its in its secured and locked position it is quite easy to just push it in a little to make contact with the seal so there is nothing holding it back. Its just the locking arm that is just out of the sweet spot a little. I may just try to change out the small rubber tabs that are on the locking arm that come in contact with the folding wall to ones that are slightly thicker and that may do it. All I need is maybe a 1/4" or so and it will be fine.

In a perfect world the small rubber tabs on the locking arm should be able to be turned in or out to make any adjustments easier.
  • I would check and make sure your tent is going inside completely. To get mine entirely inside the camper, I turn on the vent over the bed on high, close all windows and the door. It the sucks the tent into the camper and is very easy to get tucked in.

Not had any problem with it not closing securely doing that. There is not an adjustment that I know of.

Hope that is the problem and not a more complicated one.
