- martiprExplorerWhat is any possible reason for leaving the low point caps open or loose, and what does leaving the taps open or anode out accomplish?:??
- bguyExplorerWhat exactly are you trying to achieve with the faucets all left open? The low point drains obviously need to be closed to keep things out. IMO if the caps are there they need to be tight lest you forget and possibly loose them. As for the taps, if there's no water in the pipe what's the point leaving them open.
- buckyExplorer III learned a hard lesson on leaving LPD caps loose or off. You can't find them in the spring when you turn the water on after towing 5 hours and water is pouring out from under your camper. The nearest hardware store of any kind was 40 minutes each way. Righty tighty for me now.
- PenManExplorerTaps closed, drain plugs on and tight, anode rod installed (when I had one). No reason not to keep them closed.
- DutchmenSportExplorerClose up and tighten up. We travel to Florida over Christmas week, so don't want anything falling off or out. In Florida, winterize again and head north.
FYI ... you should keep your anode rode in the tank. The threads will rust up on the tank making it VERY difficult in the spring to reinsert it if you leave it out all winter. The anode rod threads will rust up also, making it just as hard to insert it. With it in the tank, it's sealed tight and threads won't rust. - DrbolaskyExplorerFaucets & drain cocks open - never have had insect issues (they get the heck outta Dodge for the winter!).
Entire system gets flushed in the spring anyway. JMHO - dbblsExplorerI always close mine up and tighten them so I don't forget in the spring.
- skipncharExplorerI've never found any reason to open taps OR leave drains open in all the years I've been RVing. Leaving LP drains open certainl COULD be an avenue for insects to make a home in your water lines and I've always preferred not to allow that :)
Good luck / Skip - kodiakcanuckExplorerIn the past I have never left the taps open, but this past winter, I left the bathroom taps open. I then proceeded to flood the bathroom this spring when I turned the water on and the plug fell into the drain...:S
I think this year, I will leave the taps closed!! I use the pink stuff to winterize, so I really dont remember the reasoning for leaving the taps open.:h - CavemanCharlieExplorer IIII leave everything open but, by the time I winterize all the bugs are dead for the year. I leave the faucets open too.
