Length of trailer

The TT length is however you measure it. My box is 24 ft. 8 in. at its widest spot. It is almost 28 ft. from spare tire to ball socket.

I call it a 25 footer, I have no idea what the manufacturer called it.

Actually, when you get in a TT either it is too small, too big, just right or too heavy to tow with your vehicle. The physical size is secondary.

When someone states the length of their trailer, it is most likely the factory advertised length because most people have never measured the trailer they own.

I guess you would have to ask the person. I can tell you the factory length or the true length because I have measured mine.

When someone asks me my trailer length, I tell them 37 ft. Tip to tail.

When they ask me the living space length, I tell them 32 and change.

It gets tricky so you really have to measure with a tape to be sure how long one is. To me, 27 ft. would be 27 ft. bumper to bumper, or really including the hitch. But sometimes they mean just the box part . Many RV owners and even salesmen really don't know how long the trailer is. Don't go by the number on the trailer. A 27SL could be as long as 30 ft. or longer.

Everyone seems to have his/her opinion on this, but the LEGAL measurement of a RV is TIP-TO-TIP (it's shadow at high noon).
Ask a friendly highway patrolman sometime.

I always state the length for the space that my TT occupies which is from ball to rear bumper. On TTs the box length is about 3' shorter than total length, model # on most RVs is not indicative of actual length, but tend to be close to the size of the box if anything. Only time I find that it really matters is if we are trying to squeeze our rig into a specific sight.

Trailer length is trailer length, box length is box length. When people ask me, I give them both answers.

Dealers and general public will say floor length ! Ferry operators will ask total box length .
